JOURNAL from FACULTY OF HUSBANDRY AND AGRICULTURE UNDIP INDEXED SCOPUS Q3

The scientific journal from the Faculty of Animal Husbandry and Agriculture (FPP), Diponegoro University (Undip), Journal of the Indonesian Tropical Animal Agriculture (JITAA) or Jurnal Pengembangan Peternakan Tropis has able to penetrate the Scopus index since 2018. The position of Undip’s FPP JITAA was included in Quartile (Q) 3, a fairly prestigious position and currently there are only two similar journals from Indonesia in this level.
In addition to being indexed in the citation database owned by Elsevier, the Undip Tropical Animal Husbandry Development Journal has also owned the ISSN for the printed as well as its electronic edition since 1999; and has become a journal that received government support for the internationalization program from 2009 – 2011, and was recognized by the Director General of Research and Development Strengthening of the Ministry of Research, Technology and Higher Education on November 18, 2016 with decision No. 60 / E / KPT / 2016. In the national level, this journal has also been indexed in SINTA (Science and Technology Index).
Scopus is a database of scientific journals introduced in 2004 by Elsevier, one of the world’s largest providers of scientific, technical and medical information, founded in 1880 in Amsterdam, the Netherlands (https://www.elsevier.com/about). Aside from being a publisher, Elsevier, before 2015, was named Reed Elsevier which was a technology company that develops electronic journals such as ScienceDirect, Trends and Current Opinion, and then later develops the Scopus database. In its development, Scopus, which also presents a patent data on various studies, is more desirable and preferred than its predecessors such as Web of Science (WOS) published by Thomson Reuters.
Other institutions that gives recognition to the Undip Tropical Animal Husbandry Development Journal, published since 1975 in the form of a scientific bulletin belonging to the Faculty of Animal Husbandry, were the Emerging Sources Citation Index (ESCI) -Clarivate Analytics, the Asean Citation Index (ACI), the Directory of Open Access Journal (DOAJ) ), Google Scholar, CAB International, EBSCO, SHERPA / RoMEO, Feedipedia and Crossref.
In his statement, the Dean of the Faculty of Animal Husbandry and Agriculture Undip, Dr. Ir. Bambang Waluyo Hadi Eko Prasetiyono MS MAgr, said that he was proud of the achievement achieved by JITAA. “After reaching, it will be difficult to maintain. Especially in this era where journal competition is very tight, we need the support of educators for the technical problems, ” he said.
According to Bambang WHEP, despite being internationally reputed and independent, JITAA needs more adequate in infrastructure support. For higher education institutions, the possession of internationally reputable journals needs to be maintained and developed in order not to decline. Especially for FPP Undip who not only manages the bachelor program, but also manages the diploma program, master of animal husbandry and master of agribusiness, as well as animal husbandry doctoral programs (https://www.undip.ac.id/fakultas/fakultas-peturuan-dan-pertanian ).
In Indonesia, there are currently at least 57 higher educations that provides animal husbandry majors or courses. All strive to build a journal with an international reputation. “On one side it is certainly good thing. The more reputable husbandry journals, will of course makes more space available for publication for research results. However, it also needs a consideration since there are ratings which means all have to compete for the top, ” he added.
Therefore, efforts to maintain the reputation of journals owned by the Faculty of Animal Husbandry and Agriculture must be supported by all available resources. In addition to requiring the best academics, JITAA management also needs publishing and information technology support staff, bearing in mind the burden on its management. “Every year there are four editions that must be published, even though all the managers are teachers have the obligation to research and conducts community service. Managing a media such as journals is not an easy matter, ” said Bambang WHEP.
Pemimpin Redaksi (Editor in Chief) of the Journal of the Indonesian Tropical Animal Agriculture (JITAA) Faculty of Animal Husbandry and Agriculture Undip, Prof. Dr. Edy Kurnianto, said the journal he led was published in four editions a year, which was in March, June, September, and December. “Each edition, contains at least 10 to 12 manuscripts,” explained Edy Kurnianto.
The themes discussed focus on tropical husbandry, including studies on animal breeding and genetics, animal feed and nutrition and livestock reproduction. Also matters relating to animal biotechnology, animal psychology, livestock economics and management, and of course other matters relevant to efforts to develop tropical livestock farming in the world (https://ejournal.undip.ac.id/index.php/jitaa/about/editorialPolicies#focusAndScope).
When asked about the challenges faced, in addition to intense competition at the international level, JITAA managers think the quality of the incoming manuscripts was felt to be lacking. “This is the main problem we face. The quality of the manuscript is not encouraging. Though the amount of what we receive is always more than enough, ” he explained.
Such conditions occur at a macro level, and cannot be overcome by mobilizing Undip academics who are in associate editors or experts from other universities who become international editorial boards as well as doctoral students and even master of animal husbandry students who studying at Undip. It is because there are basic rules, wherein from an internal journal management agency, only a maximum of 30% can be filled. The rest must be from outside writers. “Ethics and this agreement if violated will decrease the journal’s accreditation and reputation,” he said.
Despite the challenges, the manager of JITAA hopes that the journal they manage will be able to enter the Q2 this year. Or at least, still survive in Q3 Scopus. To achieve this, in addition to strengthening the network, they also conducted a safari to transmit international journal writing to various existing universities. The goal is to obtain quality manuscript inputs.
Edy admitted that all JITAA associate editors were indeed from the Undip Faculty of Animal Husbandry and Agriculture such as Prof. Dr. Agung Purnomoadi, Prof. Dr. Joelal Achmadi, but all of them already had Scopus ID. However, in the ranks of the international editorial board, almost all of them are from outside Undip. They are experts and professors at renowned universities, such as Prof. Dr. Abdulmojeed Yakubu (Faculty of Agriculture, Nasarawa State University in Keffi, Nigeria); Prof. Dr. Chalong Wachirapakorn (Department of Animal Sciences, Khon Kaen University, Thailand), Prof. Dr. Takuro Oikawa (Faculty of Agriculture, Ryukyus University, Japan); Prof. Dr. Sumeet Sharma (North Edmonton Animal Clinic, in Alberta, Canada); Prof. Dr. Vincenzo Tufarelli (Bari University “Aldo Moro”, Italy) and several others (https://ejournal.undip.ac.id/index.php/jitaa/about/editorialTeam).
In the selection process of the manuscript that will be submitted, JITAA also has a reliable reviewer consisting of experts from various universities in Indonesia. Academics who are Peer Reviewers of JITAA are Prof. Dr. Akhmad Sodiq from the Faculty of Animal Science, Jenderal Soedirman University, Purwokerto, Prof. Dr. Urip Santoso from the Faculty of Agriculture, Bengkulu University, Prof. Dr. Sumiati Sumiati from the Faculty of Animal Husbandry, Bogor Agricultural University, Dr. Atien Priyanti from the Center for Research and Development of livestock at the Ministry of Agriculture in Bogor, and Dr. Tety Hartatik from the Faculty of Animal Science UGM Yogyakarta; and Dr. Armina Fariani from the Faculty of Agriculture, Sriwijaya University, Palembang.
