Chemical Engineering Care: Providing Basic Necessities and Living Costs

Chemical Engineering Department, Faculty of Engineering, Diponegoro University is consistently committed to help in solving problems that occur in society as a form of social responsibility. In 2020, in conjunction with the XI’s Lustrum series of activities, the Chemical Engineering Department took the initiative to distribute assistance to students and the Tembalang community affected by the COVID-19 pandemic through CHEMICAL ENGINEERING CARE activities. Assistance in the form of basic necessities and living expenses, all are funded by Chemical Engineering Alumni collected since mid-May 2020.

There were 44 students who remain in the boarding house because of the COVID-19 pandemic, 16 janitors of the Chemical Engineering Department and 100 residents from village part of Tembalang who need assistance such as the widows, construction workers, side-workers and peddlers affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. They received basic necessities assistance. The amounts of students who have the right to receive a living expenses assistance were students from group 1 UKT, 13 students, group 2 UKT, 30 students, and bidik misi students whose study period has expired 15 students. Living cost assistance was also given to students with UKT above group 2 and to the active bidik misi students who are in dire need of assistance with the total amount of 7 students.

The assistance was symbolically delivered by representatives of Chemical Engineering alumni to representatives of student recipients the assistance. While the assistance to 100 residents around Undip Tembalang who were affected was symbolically delivered by the Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, Prof. Ir. Mochamad Agung Wibowo, M.M., M.Sc., Ph.D to Karang Taruna, Village of Tembalang.

“Through this activity, we try to be aware of the environment where the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic is very heavy for the community. We need to share with the community. Therefore, one of the programs is to provide assistance to students who are unable to go home and to the community who live around the campus area because we are part of that community. We can grow here, we can learn here, we can do research here. all because of the surrounding community who also supports us, ” explained Prof. Agung Wibowo.

The handover ceremony which took place on Thursday morning (6/25/2020) at the Chemical Engineering Department and was also attended by Dr. Ing. Suherman, S.T., M.T. Head of Chemical Engineering Department, Head of Lustrum XI Chemical Engineering Prof. Dr. Istadi, ST., MT, the PIC Activity Ir. Agus Hadiyarto, MT and Dr. Ir. Nur Rokhati, as the Alumni Representative, as well as Kadarisman, the Head of the Karang Taruna Village Youth Organization with its members, community representatives, and Chemical Engineering Student Association (HMTK) as well as student representatives recipient.
