Webinar Application of Breeding and Reproduction Technology to Increase Goat Productivity in Pandemic Times

The Genetics, Breeding and Reproduction Laboratory with the Department of Animal Husbandry, Faculty of Animal Husbandry and Agriculture, Diponegoro University has held a virtual webinar on Tuesday, September 1 2020 at 09.30 – 12.30 WIB.

During a pandemic like what happened right now, all activities becomes a bit obstructed, it is undeniable that one of them is activities in higher education. Things that are usually done, such as community service activities, fostering breeders, disseminating information about livestock and so on, are hampered even though the latest technological information in the world of livestock to produce better livestock productivity needs to be conveyed to breeders.

“A pandemic like now cannot be used as an obstacle for us to convey what we have to others.” Said Ir. Daud Samsudewa, S.Pt., M.Si., Ph.D., IPM. as a lecturer from the Genetics, Breeding and Reproduction Laboratory, FPP Undip and as the webinar coordinator.

The topic raised in the webinar this time was “Application of Breeding and Reproduction Technology to Increase Goat Productivity.” During the 3 hours of the webinar, the webinar presented several applications that can be used to support goat productivity. The material presented by the resource person Prof. Dr. Ir. Edy Kurnianto, M.S., M.Agr. Regarding the importance of recording in livestock business, almost 50% of the success of livestock business is influenced by recording. Prof. Dr. Ir. Barep Sutiyono, M.S., conveyed about the procedures for producing efficient goats, namely by paying attention to the selection of doe, matters regarding reproduction such as length of time for the goat to be in heat, duration of pregnancy and so on as well as the material presented by resource persons Akhmad Lukman, S.Pt. on how to increase goat productivity through synchronization of heat and early detection of pregnancy.

The webinar was also attended by Mr. Tri Agus from the Department of Animal Husbandry and Animal Health, Central Java who also provided information and stated that the webinar activities were very useful in a pandemic like this time.

The enthusiasm of the participants who took part in the webinar event was very high as evidenced by the large number of webinar participants asking questions in the question and answer session. The webinar was recorded to have registered by 955 participants was attended by 370 participants via Zoom by livestock offices throughout Indonesia, practitioners, breeders, students, lecturers and the general public. This webinar also provides assistance in Community Service activities at the Ngudi Dadi Summit in Purbalingga and the Barokah Summit in Grobogan.
