UNDIP FKM Held International Seminar ICOPH-TCD 2020

In welcoming the 63rd Anniversary of Diponegoro University, the Faculty of Public Health, Diponegoro University held an international conference entitled A Web Conference The 3rd International Conference on Public Health for Tropical and Coastal Development (ICOPH-TCD). This year’s FKM Undip annual conference was held on 29-30 September 2020 with the theme “Lifestyle and Environmental Changes: Challenges on Public Health in Tropical and Coastal Areas to Support SDGs Achievements”. The keynote speaker in this event was the Minister of Health of the Republic of Indonesia, Lt. Gen. TNI (Ret.) Dr. dr. Terawan Agus Putranto, Sp. Rad. (K), and there were also speakers from health experts and five of them from various countries in the world.

The event was opened with remarks from the Dean of the Faculty of Public Health, Undip, namely Dr. Budiyono, S.KM., M.Kes. which emphasizes the importance of personal health and safety, especially in the era of the Covid-19 pandemic. Changes in the environment and lifestyle to be healthier are important to prevent the transmission of dangerous diseases. This is where the government plays an important role in educating the public about health, and its process has stages in accordance with the SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals). The Dean of FKM Undip expressed his deepest appreciation to all parties who had contributed to this international conference and hoped that this event could generate fruitful ideas for public health.

The Undip Rector also delivered his remarks at this conference. Prof. Dr. Yos Johan Utama, S.H., M.Hum said that this conference was an optimal forum for sharing knowledge to improve public health. Prof. Yos welcomed the speakers who joined the conference which aims to find high-quality innovations to solve health issues that occur in Indonesia and also in the world.

The event was continued with the screening of a welcoming video from the Minister of Health of the Republic of Indonesia. Dr. Terawan revealed that it was necessary to plan for climate change mitigation. Entering this climate where the weather becomes unpredictable, we must also be alerted to infectious diseases such as malaria, dengue fever, and so on. He promotes a healthy lifestyle, among others, with the Healthy Living Community Movement (GERMAS) and Community-Based Total Sanitation (STBM).

Therefore, to improve the quality of public health and reduce the risk of climate change, it is important for all of us to maintain personal health and the environment. The importance of this agenda requires a multi-sectoral role, including from the government together with academics whose function is to present actual scientific data. Undip hopes that by holding this international conference it can provide information about health and contribute to improving the health of the Indonesian people.
