SEMARANG – The Management of Naval Architecture Study Program of Diponegoro University (UNDIP) is now finalizing preparations to open a Master Program (Strata -2) of Marine Engineering which is scheduled to start in 2022. Various administrative and technical preparations required such as approval and permission are being refined, so that the program administration can be received as scheduled.
Head of Department and Head of Naval Architecture Study Program, Faculty of Engineering UNDIP, Dr. Eng Hartono Yudo, S.T., M.T., stated that currently Naval Architecture Study Program already has Accreditation A from National Accreditation Board for Higher Education (Badan Akreditasi Nasional Perguruan Tinggi / BAN-PT), so it is possible to open a master program. “We are part of the engineering faculty, the priority this year is to improve the accreditation of other study programs so that all of them can obtain Accreditation A. Therefore, we schedule the opening of a master program of marine engineering in 2022”, said Hartono Yudo, on Monday (16/11/2020)
This issue is related to various preparations and intentions of program managers supported by the faculty and university in the preparations made. “In essence, submitting a proposal for Master of Marine Engineering permit has the support of all parties, both faculties and universities. Since we has done careful preparation, we hope that the permit from the government will be immediately given so that by 2022 the master program can be opened”, he said.
According to him, the preparation to open a Master of Marine Engineering, starting from proposals, curriculum preparation, preparation of teaching lecturers have been carried out. Introduction of plans to open master program in marine engineering has also been made to public and stakeholders.
For lecturers, currently there are six lecturers with doctoral degrees. Meanwhile, at this time, two lecturers are pursuing doctoral education and the other two have just started taking doctoral programs this year, studying in Indonesia and some are abroad. “It is expected that in the next two to three years, there will be 10 doctors in us so that the qualifications will be better”, he said.
Other preparations that have been made include the preparation of a Semester Learning Plan (Rencana Pembelajaran Semester / RPS) for Masters courses per semester to support the curriculum for Masters program. Concentration of the study focuses on three areas, namely Capture Fisheries Technology, Non-Conventional Fast Ship Technology, and Inter-Island Transportation Technology.
For the field of Capture Fisheries Technology, the courses offered include Advanced Fishing Boat Design, Structural and System Reliability, Fishing Boat Performance, Advanced Fishing Vessel Stability, and Piping Structure Analysis. As for the field of Non-Conventional Fast Ship Technology, the courses offered include Non-Conventional Fast Boat Design, Advanced Fluid Dynamics, Advanced Ship Vibrations, Structural and System Reliability, Advanced Material Technology, and Composite Materials.
Meanwhile for Inter-Island Transportation Technology, the courses to be offered include Ferry Design, Advanced Fluid Dynamics, Advanced Ship Vibrations, Structural and System Reliability, Analysis of Piping Structures, and Ship Structure. The subject materials offered are all ready, and continue to be refined.
“We expect the market of Master Program are from sea transportation, lecturers, Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries, Indonesian Classification Bureau and shipyard companies. The Semester Learning Plan for each target has been prepared”, explained Hartono Yudo.
Currently, there are a limited number of universities in Indonesia that have opened Naval Architecture Study Program, they are Hasanuddin University (Unhas) in Makassar, Sepuluh Nopember Institute of Technology (ITS) in Surabaya and University of Indonesia (UI) in Jakarta. In Central Java and Special Region of Yogyakarta, there is no university that has opened a Master Program in Marine Engineering so that the opportunity is still very open since the need to produce reliable experts, researchers, and educators in the shipping sector is very large.
The Department of Naval Architecture UNDIP itself was established in October 2002 and has received Accreditation from National Accreditation Board for Higher Education with the title A, based on Decree No.1057/SK/BAN-PT/Akred/S/VI/2016 and ISO 9001:2015 Certification. This study program is equipped with six superior laboratories, namely Ship Hydrodynamics Laboratory, Ship Structural and Construction Laboratory, Plumbing System and Ship Machinery Laboratory, Computer Assisted Ship Planning Laboratory, Ship Welding and Metrial Laboratory, and Small Ship and Fisheries Laboratory.
