Business World and Industrial World Shows Interest in Library Sciences Graduates of Faculty of Humanities UNDIP

SEMARANG – Graduates of the Undergraduate Study Program in Library Sciences, Faculty of Humanities Diponegoro University (UNDIP) Semarang are much in demand by Business World and Industrial World (Dunia Usaha dan Dunia Industri). The reason is that Library Sciences Undip graduates are considered ready to work and have competence in their fields, so that they are able to compete with graduates from other universities.

“Our graduates’ job opportunities are not only librarians, but also document controllers, publishers, researchers, academic librarians, subject specialists, cyberians, sifter information resources, information managers, infographic makers, content creators, information consultants, database administrators. Even now, there are also our graduates who are data analysts,” explained the Head of Undergraduate Study Program in Library Sciences of Faculty of Humanities Undip, Dra. Rukiyah, M.Hum., on Tuesday (9/3/2021).

According to Rukiyah, currently there are many types of activities and specializations that have emerged in the 4.0 industrial era. The exciting thing is that the available fields are relevant with knowledge held by Library Sciences Undip graduates. It is not surprising that the Business World and Industrial World (DUDI) and government agencies are absorbing Library Science graduates from Diponegoro University.

The manager of Library Sciences Study Program ensures that its graduates always anticipate the dynamics that occur in the world of work. Curriculum evaluations and adjustments are also routinely carried out, while still referring to the existing regulations. “Undergraduate Study Program in Library Sciences, Faculty of Humanities Diponegoro UNDIP is committed to always following the development of science and meeting the demand of stakeholders and job market,” she explained.

Besides being carried out independently and developed based on input from stakeholders, curriculum evaluation is also conducted based on input obtained from Association of Indonesian Library Sciences Study Programs. “The current curriculum is the 2017 Curriculum and the 2020 Curriculum which are popularly known as Merdeka Curriculum which is being implemented for students of class 2020. To get a bachelor’s degree, students are required to take at least 144 credits of courses,” Rukiyah said.

Undergraduate Study Program in Library Sciences, Faculty of Humanities Undip also continues to develop programs that can equip its graduates to be more competent and competitive. The journey of the Study Program which was born based on the Dikti permit No.3025/D.T.2005 is quite brilliant. Since 2018 it has received Accreditation A based on the Decree of the National Accreditation Board for Higher Education (BAN-PT), No.1178/SK/BAN-PT/Akred/S/N/2018 which is valid until May 2nd 2023.

Even so, improvements are still being made. Various steps have been taken to improve the quality and qualifications of the graduates. Preparedness such as job training and document control competency tests have also begun to be applied for students of class 2017. ‘”We are committed to produce graduates who have quality research competency and professional expertise in the field of library and information science. They are trained to have academic and professional abilities, moral integrity, scientific and critical attitude and high competitiveness at the national level,” she explained.

As addition in continuing to improve the curriculum and strengthening programs, Undergraduate Study Program in Library Sciences, Faculty of Humanities UNDIP also intensively carries out the duties of the Tri Darma of Higher Education by producing innovative and quality research and publication work. Library Sciences Undip also eager to produce graduates who will be professional expertise in the field of library sciences, as well as carrying out community service to improve quality of community’s lives and quality of the nation.
