UNDIP Rector Reminded Professors to Continue to Produce Quality Scientific Works

SEMARANG-Central Java (28/10). The Rector of Diponegoro University (Undip), Prof. Dr. Yos Johan Utama, S.H., M.Hum., reminded that professors should continue to produce quality scientific works that are renewable, as well as continue to maintain their integrity as humans and as teachers. These were conveyed by the Rector at the Prof. Soedarto, SH Building in the series of inauguration of four new professors in Undip, on Thursday (28/10/2021).

Besides continuing to work, Prof. Yos Johan also reminded that scientific achievements should be accompanied by mental maturity. “As a professor, someone must possess maturity and peace of mind. Integrity and caring spirit for humans and the universe are necessary to preserve the truth,” said the Rector who was determined to bring Undip into the ranks of the world’s 500 best universities.

The inauguration event for the four new professors was divided into two sessions and was held online and offline with implementation of strict health protocols. The four new professors are Prof. Dr. Dra. Turrini Yudiarti, M.Sc from the Department of Animal Science, Faculty of Animal and Agricultural Sciences; Prof. Dr. Aji Prasetyaningrum, S.T., M.Si from the Department of Chemical Engineering, Faculty of Engineering; Prof. Dyah Hesti Wardhani, S.T., M.T., Ph.D from the Department of Chemical Engineering, Faculty of Engineering; and Prof. Dr. Ing. Wiwandari Handayani, S.T., M.T., M.P.S. from the Department of Urban and Regional Planning Engineering, Faculty of Engineering.

Based on the report of the Head of Undip Academic Senate, Prof. Ir. Edy Rianto, M.Sc., Ph.D., IPU, currently there are 159 active professors at Diponegoro University. Prof. Dr. Dra. Turrini Yudiarti, M.Sc listed as the 26th professor of Faculty of Animal and Agricultural Sciences. Meanwhile Prof. Dr. Aji Prasetyaningrum, S.T., M.Si listed as the 39th professor, Prof. Dyah Hesti Wardhani, S.T., M.T., Ph.D listed as the 40th professor, and Prof. Dr. Ing. Wiwandari Handayani, S.T., M.T., M.P.S. listed as the 41st professor of Faculty of Engineering.

Strictly speaking, Prof. Yos reiterated that one’s success to the highest academic level with the title of professor is not only the result of one’s own efforts. There are many parties who work hand in hand to help him, from family, father, mother, husband, children, brother and sister; as well as the board of professors, the academic senate, advisors, and credit scorers.

“We are grateful that today we can witness the inauguration of new professors. I thank all those who helped. We provide a symbolic plaque to remind the family and the closest people to participate in maintaining the integrity of the professors,” said Prof. Yos Johan. This statement is always stated by Undip Rector, considering that the integrity of a professor is as important as his scientific works. In short, a professor must be knowledgeable as well as having morals.

The title of a professor as the highest academic position, according to the Rector, whose term of office is until 2024, is the ability to produce good works for the benefit of the universe. “An academic with the highest academic degree must have concern for mankind and the universe, and be brave in upholding the truth based on honesty and integrity,” said Prof. Yos.

Another important message conveyed by the Rector was that human life is very short. In a short period, our time will be ended by death when nobody knows their time. One thing we can be sure of is that every day, hour, and second let us do our best for our family, nation, state, religion and humanity.

“The end of all knowledge is to return to the question of whether our knowledge will lead us to be closer to Allah SWT or vice versa. We are just dust in the scene of the universe, so don’t be arrogant with our position or our wealth because it can vanish in the blink of an eye in this universe,” concluded Prof. Yos.
