Action to Care of BEM FISIP UNDIP through “Blood For Buddies” Activities

As a form of concern for others, the Community Service Division of BEM FISIP Undip 2022 held a blood donation event through the Bloodies program, “Blood for Buddies, Blood for Solidarity”, last week. In collaboration with PMI Semarang City, Bloodies is here with the hope of increasing the attention of students and the academic community of FISIP Undip towards community service and social service in the form of blood donation.

In addition to welcoming the Indonesian Red Cross Day, the implementation of blood donation also aims to help meet the blood stock at PMI Semarang City. Considering that the availability of blood bags in Indonesia, especially in the Semarang City area, is running low when compared to the population and the demand for blood from the community.

Before the blood donation activity was held, the Community Service Division had conducted a blood donor interest survey. Based on the survey, it was recorded that 83.7% of respondents were interested in donating blood since blood donation activities can help increase blood supplies and can help people who need blood.

On the day of implementation, Bloodies took place in the Auditorium of FISIP Undip from 08.00 WIB to 12.00 WIB. In this activity, PMI Semarang City assigned 1 (one) doctor and 2 (two) medical officers, who were assisted by 1 (one) logistics and 1 (one) data entry person. Real evidence of community service conducted by FISIP Undip can be seen from the large number of students who come to the venue for the blood donation activity, while still paying attention to the Covid-19 health protocols.

The first flow for this activity is starting from registration by filling out the form provided by the committee. After that, the donor will conduct a health screening in the form of measuring blood pressure and testing for hemoglobin (Hb) levels. Then, donors who meet the criteria to donate are ready to donate blood.

This blood donation activity succeeded in collecting 50 bags of blood from 50 people who voluntarily participated as blood donors. The Head of the Bloodies program said that some participants were unable to donate blood because they did not meet the existing health criteria. The causes include low/high Hb, low blood pressure, and several other reasons.

“I hope that this work program can continue and accommodate more donors because it turns out that there is a great interest in people to donate blood. We also hope that in the future this program can run even better,” said Zaky Arkan as the Chief Executive of Blood for Buddies 2022.

With the implementation of this program, Zaky hoped that the blood donated by FISIP Undip  students can help meet the needs of PMI Semarang City blood bags which can later be distributed to hospitals in the city of Semarang and its surrounding areas. In line with that, hopefully this activity can increase public awareness of the importance of blood donation to save the lives of others. (Naila Fitri by PR BEM FISIP Undip 2022)
