Diponegoro University is Applied by 15 Pharmaceutical and Medical Device Companies in the Business Matching Event

Diponegoro University is a PTNBH that continues to create technological inventions from research and development results, and has produced innovative products in the fields of engineering, electricity, agriculture and food, marine and fisheries, as well as health and pharmaceuticals. Undip also encourages the acceleration of the downstreaming of research results, especially medical devices and pharmaceuticals so that the benefits can be felt by the community as well as a form of Undip’s commitment to supporting the Government’s priority program to achieve self-reliance in the production of domestic medical devices.

Efforts to downstream research results, particularly in the health and pharmaceutical sectors, are carried out by Undip through collaboration, both with the government and with the business and industrial world. This was done as one of the efforts to implement Presidential Instruction Number 2 of 2022 concerning Accelerating the Increase in the Use of Domestic Products and Products of Micro, Small Enterprises and Cooperatives in the Context of Succeeding the National Movement of “Bangga Buatan Indonesia”. Efforts to downstream research results were also carried out as a form of implementing Diponegoro University Rector’s Regulation Number 30 of 2020 concerning Governance and Transfer of Intellectual Property and Results of Research, Development, Innovation and Community Service at Undip.

In line with that, and as a form of creating strategic collaboration and synergy between Diponegoro University and Industry as a contribution to achieving 8 (eight) Key Performance Indicators (IKU) as well as downstreaming and commercializing innovative work products, Undip, the Directorate of Innovation and Industrial Cooperation collaborated with The Innovation and Cooperation Bureau. They worked together in commemorating the 58th National Health Day (HKN) in 2022 with the theme “Proud Exhibition of Domestic Health Technology and Innovation Products in Supporting Health System Transformation”, which was initiated by Undip (DIRGA Technovation), UI ( IMEGA Technopark) , GAKESLAB and the Ministry of Health.

As a series of these activities, the Directorate General of Pharmaceuticals and Medical Devices intended to hold an activity of Business Matching on Medical Devices Research Results on Saturday, November 5, 2022 from 09.00 to 15.00 WIB at Hall 2, 3 and 3A Indonesia Convention Exhibition BSD, BSD Grand Boulevard Street, Tangerang, Banten. On this occasion, Director of Innovation and Industrial Cooperation Undip, drh. Dian Wahyu Harjanti, Ph.D. in her online remarks said that close cooperation between Higher Education, DUDI and the Government is urgently needed to realize the independence of medical devices. This Business Matching is a means of meeting, introducing and exploring cooperation between Universities and potential industrial partners, both for downstreaming medical devices resulting from existing research and for upstreaming. Regarding the implementation, DUDI can submit their problems to Higher Education to be resolved through a reverse engineering or joint development of a medical device product.

The statement by the Director of Innovation and Industrial Cooperation Undip was approved and supported by the Director General of Pharmaceuticals and Medical Devices, Dr. dr. Lucia Rizka Andalucia, Apt, M.Pharm, MARS, who in her speech also said that for R&D, entrepreneurs can entrust Higher Education. The commercialization of products can be cooperated together. Furthermore, she said that Business Matching is very beneficial for universities which are institutions that have resources that can be utilized to conduct research on innovation and engineering. They also excel in industries which are parties that meet both directly and indirectly with the market for research and innovation results, and become parties who have an understanding of the needs of society and industry, especially in the world of medical devices and pharmaceuticals.

In the Business Matching activity, Diponegoro University also sent 5 (five) representatives, namely Dr. I Made Bayu Dirgantara, S.E., M.M. (Deputy Director of Innovation and Industrial Cooperation); Suhartini, S.Kp., MNS. Ph. D. and Rizal Mustofa with his innovative work on Digital Stethoscopes, Myomes, Robot Hands, and other innovations from the Center for Bio Mechanics, Bio Materials, Bio Mechatronics and Bio Signal Processing (CBIOM3S), Prof. Jamari, S.T., M.T., Ph.D. represented by Mohamad Izzur Maula with his Oxyonizer innovation work and other innovations from the Undip Biomechanics Engineering & Research Center (UBM-ERC), and Dr. drh. Martini, M. Kes. represented by Derico Hitipeuw with the innovation work of the Vaccine Cooler Box from the Faculty of Public Health (FKM).

The Business Matching event was also attended by 39 other participants from the medical device industry and distributors as well as participants from 5 (five) tertiary institutions consisting of Diponegoro University, University of Indonesia, Padjadjaran University, North Sumatra University and the Indonesian Institute of Technology. In the event, Undip was proposed by more than 15 companies engaged in the pharmaceutical and medical devices sector throughout Indonesia, including Konimex, Medtek, PT Graha Teknomedika (GTM), PT Hospiniaga, PT Kalmed Sejahtera, PT Miconos, etc. Participants from universities occupy the tables provided while participants from companies rotate from table to table. Business matching time is 8 minutes, 6 minutes for discussion and 2 minutes for filling out the evaluation form. Companies and representatives of inventors from Undip exchanged contacts in preparation for “ta’aruf” (both parties’ approach) to discuss further about downstreaming, upstreaming, R&D, and other opportunities for cooperation.

The next step of the Business Matching activity is to “apply”. Undip will invite, gather and bring together researchers with DUDI to realize, finalize and provide solutions to the needs of products, especially medical devices and pharmaceuticals, especially those that have a higher TKDN than existing products and which are more fulfilled by suppliers from abroad in the near future.

By meeting the two parties in Business Matching, it is hoped that extensive and better information will be obtained for each party. By understanding one another, it is hoped that there will be cooperation both in the nature of research on developing new products and engineering existing products. Hope it can be developed into more efficient and affordable products. (YN)
