Magenta Market Day, A Bazaar by Faculty of Psychology UNDIP to Train Students to Become Global Entrepreneurs

In order to form graduates with global competence and have an entrepreneurial spirit from an early age, the Faculty of Psychology, Diponegoro University (Undip) held an Entrepreneurship Expo called Magenta Market Day “Be a Global Entrepreneur with Psychological Character” on Thursday, November 10, 2022 at 08:00 – 15:00 WIB in the basement of the Faculty of Psychology Undip. This event was initiated by a team of Entrepreneurship lecturers and Student Executive Board (BEM) at the Faculty of Psychology Undip by cooperating with alumni who are proficient in the field of entrepreneurship. The Entrepreneurship Expo which contained bazaars, food stands and art performances was enlivened by product innovation by 5th semester Psychology students who took Entrepreneurship courses.

Dean of Faculty of Psychology Undip, Prof. Dian Ratna Sawitri, S.Psi., M.Si., Ph.D officially opened the Magenta Market Day event symbolically by cutting the ribbon. “Keep enthusiasm for younger students. By inviting Mas Firman, S.Psi., M.M., a young entrepreneur who graduated from Psychology Undip class of 1999, we hope to strengthen collaboration between alumni and the Faculty of Psychology, as well as foster all young students to enter the world of entrepreneurship,” said Prof. Dian in her speech.

The holding of the Magenta Market Day bazaar from students was guided by a team of Entrepreneurship lecturers at the Faculty of Psychology Undip consisting of Endah Mujiasih, S.Psi., M.Si, Imam Setyawan, S.Psi., M.Si, Dwi Hardani Oktawirawan, S.Psi., M .Si. The Head of the Entrepreneurship lecturers team, Endah Mujiasih, S.Psi., M.Si said that this event was held to hone students’ abilities in exploring marketing, products, opportunities, innovation and creativity.

“Later on 10 winners will be chosen and each winning team will receive an incentive of IDR 5000.000 then go forward for PKM-K. The assessment starts from proposals, promotions on social media, product sales, and the relevance of the products to psychology,” said Endah Mujiasih, S.Psi., M.Si.

The products sold also vary, ranging from food and beverages, clothing, healing journals, aromatherapy candles, to applications and websites. Magenta Market Day has been routinely held by the Faculty of Psychology Undip since 5 years ago but was stopped due to the pandemic, and it was held again in 2022.

In her interview with the Undip Public Relations Team, the Dean of the Faculty of Psychology Undip explained that the Faculty of Psychology has a mission to introduce students to the Business World of Industry (DUDI) from an early age. Starting with the Self and Career Development course in semester 1, students were taught about personal branding and getting to know livelihoods that have prospects and are in accordance with students’ interests and talents.

“Introducing them to many choices since the beginning of the semester, it is hoped that in the final semester their choices can be narrowed and more adapted to the passion and capital they currently have. This is also an effort to achieve the first KPI of State Universities, namely graduates getting decent jobs. So that after graduation, whether working as an employee or becoming an entrepreneur, it is hoped that Psychology Undip graduates can have successful careers in their fields,” said Prof. Dian.
