The Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs (Menko Polhukam) Mahfud MD, said that the new Criminal Code (KUHP) would be implemented in 2026. According to the Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs, the Government would continue to disseminate information regarding the new KUHP. “The hope is to increase public knowledge and understanding of the importance of implementing the KUHP,” stated Mahfud MD in a Socialization of KUHP entitled Kenduri KUHP Nasional which was held by the Ministry of Communications and Informatics (Kemkominfo) at the Prof. Soedarto S.H. Building, Diponegoro University, Tuesday (24/1).
“It is not easy to change a paradigm, especially if the old law has been in effect for more than a hundred years. With joint efforts like what we are doing today, undoubtedly the mission of reform in the National Criminal Code can be conveyed and accepted by the public,” he continued.
This socialization was attended by the Deputy Minister of Law and Human Rights, Prof. Edward O.S. Hiariej; Director General of IKP of the Ministry of Communications and Informatics, Usman Kansong; Director of Political Information and Communication, Legal and Security of the Ministry of Communications and Informatics, Drs. The Rector also congratulated and thanked the predecessors including Prof. Barda, Prof. Darto, Prof. Muladi, Prof. Nyoman, and Prof. Paulus and all parties involved who have given an infinite charity because it involves 275 million Indonesians. “Hopefully the new KUHP truly reflects compassion for both perpetrators and victims,” he concluded.
