Civil Engineering UNDIP Successfully Held National Seminar on The Rise of Construction on The Threat of Recession

The students of Civil Engineering, Diponegoro University (Undip) successfully held a National Seminar which was the peak of The 11th Civil Engineering Innovation Contest (CEIC) on Saturday, May 6, 2023 which took place at the Prof. Soedarto Building Undip. The 11th Civil Engineering Innovation Contest (CEIC) is an annual event held by the students of Civil Engineering Undip.

This year’s National Seminar raised the theme “The Rise of Construction on The Threat of Recession” which aims to broaden students’ insights and be more concerned and able to be critical of national issues that are happening in Indonesia.

Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, Diponegoro University, Prof. Ir. M. Agung Wibowo M.M., M.Sc., Ph.D., said that currently the construction industry is moving toward using environmentally friendly technology. “The world is getting older, resources are getting limited, so the damage to the environment is getting faster. Therefore, the Paris Agreement emerged which required Net Zero Emission. The construction industry is now heading there, moving towards the use of eco-friendly technologies. These concepts are the basis of Lean Construction. This concept is inspired by the Manufacturing industry,” he explained.

“For us, in the last 5 years we have been trying to introduce this concept as a tool to help reduce waste and increase efficiency. In Civil Engineering itself we facilitate our students to learn this. This seminar (CEIC) is important as a means to introduce the concept,” added Prof. Agung.

The material on the first session of the National Seminar raised the theme “Development Transformation” which was delivered by four speakers who were experts in their fields, namely the Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, Diponegoro University Prof. Ir. M. Agung Wibowo M.M., M.Sc., Ph.D., the Vice President of HAKI Dr. Ir. Nathan Madutujuh, M.Sc., the Chair of the Lean Construction Institute Indonesia Ir. Budi Utomo, IRCA., RLA., CBA., SSBB. and the Lean Construction Consultants Blento Kasih S.T., PSMI., LeanPM., CAPM. The moderator of this session is Prof. Jati Utomo Dwi Hatmoko, S.T., M.M., M.Sc., Ph.D. who serves as Chair of  Civil Engineering Department, Faculty of Engineering, Diponegoro University.

The material discussed in the next session is national development towards a better future supported by lean construction in Indonesia under the pressure of the ongoing recession.

The material on the second session raised a theme that is often discussed, namely “Digital Transformation” by presenting three experienced speakers. The material was presented by the IT Vice President of Hutama Karya Agung Sulistyo Pramono, S.T., M.B.A., the WIKA Building Operations Director Ir. Bagus Tri Setyana, M.T., and the Senior Manager of Engineering Department at QHSE WIKA Division Ir. Hadi Triolaksana, S.T., M.T. As a moderator, Dr.-Ing. Bobby Rio Indriyantho, S.T., M.T.  led a discussion on ERP systems in the construction industry and the implementation of BIM technology in Indonesia.

The National Seminar was also enlivened by performances from the Diponegoro University Engineering Student Choir (PSMT) and closed by awarding the winners of The 11th Civil Engineering Innovation Contest (CEIC), namely the International BIM Innovation Contest, International Dam Innovation Contest, and International Bridge Design Competition from various universities.
