UNDIP Collaborates with FITB ITB Academics to Share Disaster Risk Management Knowledge

The Geodetic Engineering Department of Diponegoro University held a guest lecture titled “Geospatial-Based Coastal Area Disaster Mitigation Management” in Theatre Room, Dean Building floor 4 (Monday, 19/6). In this guest lecture, the Geodetic Engineering Department collaborated with the Geodesy Masters Study Program, Faculty of Earth Science and Technology (FITB) ITB as a partner in giving a joint public lecture.

Head of the Geodetic Engineering Study Program at Undip, L M Sabri, Dr., S.T., M.T. revealed not only lecturers from FITB ITB came to this public lecture but also several Geodetic Postgraduate Study Program students who participated. He expressed his gratitude for the participation and willingness of the FITB ITB team to share knowledge with students from the Geodetic Engineering Department Undip.

In this public lecture, there are two materials presented. The first material was delivered by Dr. Ir. Bambang Setiadji, M.T., Head of the Geodetic Engineering Masters Study Program at ITB. In his presentation, he explained intelligent disaster risk management, which includes strategies and techniques for managing disaster risk intelligently using a geodetic approach. He also explained how technology and geospatial data are important in planning mitigation and reducing disaster risk.

Dr. Ir. Heri Andreas, S.T., M.T., Geodetic Engineering lecturer at ITB, delivered the second material. In this public lecture, he discussed a comprehensive program review of disaster risk management in the coastal areas of Pekalongan, Demak, and Semarang. In his talk, he explained how potential natural disasters on the north coast of Java, which include land subsidence, sea level rise, and tidal flooding, can be overcome using geodesy science.

Students from the Geodetic Engineering Department Undip and the Geodetic Masters Study Program ITB attended the guest lecture. From this public lecture, students can broaden their knowledge and understanding regarding disaster risk management and the role of geodesy in this regard. Apart from that, this event is also an opportunity for Undip and ITB to work together in developing Geodesy Engineering and disaster risk management.
