Crystalline 22 Team from the Faculty of Science and Mathematics UNDIP Won 2nd Place at NESCO UI 2023

The student team from the Faculty of Science and Mathematics of Diponegoro University (FSM UNDIP) led by Aileen Alodia (Chemistry study program, class of 2022), with members Iqbal Yudi Pradana (Physics study program, class of 2022) and Risqi Prastianto Setiawan (Physics study program, class of 2022) succeeded in winning 2nd place (two) in the essay category in the 2023 Nano Seminar and Competition (NESCO) at the University of Indonesia. The competition was held on Saturday, November 25, 2023, at the University of Indonesia.

The FSM UNDIP student team, named Crystalline 22, won second place after presenting an innovative work on nanobubbles that strengthened the cavitation effect with a sonochemical reactor to deal with heavy metal waste produced by large industries.

The cavitation effect produced by this sonochemical reactor is assisted by the Internet of Things, which makes it easier to create nanobubbles. “With this integration, the nanobubbles produced can be maximized in treating waters polluted by heavy metal waste,” explained Risqi, representing the Crystalline 22 Team.

This innovative work brought the Crystalline 22 Team through to the final round with a score of 100 in the essay category. “After making the presentation, we won 2nd place in NESCO UI 2023 and brought the good name of Diponegoro University to this activity,” he said.

This activity, which was organized by the Nano Research Society, Faculty of Engineering, University of Indonesia, carried the theme “Revolutionizing the Green Future: Harnessing Nanotechnology for Environmental Sustainability”. NESCO UI 2023 will be a place where young researchers can develop their ideas for the nation’s progress.

On the same occasion, Risqi advised Undip’s young generation to continue learning so that they are able to handle advances in technology in the future. “As Albert Einstein said, the human spirit must triumph over technology. The knowledge learned must also be disseminated so that it can be useful,” Risqi said.
