Former Rector of Diponegoro University for the 2010-2014 period who is also a Professor of Environmental Management, Prof. Sudharto Prawata Hadi, MES, Ph.D. was selected as one of the 11 panelists in the Fourth Debate of the 2024 Presidential Election by the General Election Commission (KPU). It is the third time Prof. Sudharto has been selected as a panelist for the Presidential/Vice Presidential Debate.
In the 2019 presidential election, Prof. Sudharto was also selected as a panelist for the Presidential/Vice Presidential Debate on the themes of energy, food, natural resources, and the environment and infrastructure. Meanwhile, in the 2014 presidential election, Prof. Sudharto was chosen as moderator among the debate panelists with almost the same theme. The 2024 debate forum was held at the Jakarta Convention Center, Central Jakarta, on Sunday (21/01).
The fourth debate for the 2024 presidential election presented the three vice presidential candidates to compete on the big themes, namely sustainable development and the environment, natural resources and energy, food, agricultural affairs, indigenous communities and villages. The theme raised in this debate is in accordance with Prof. Sudharto’s expertise, namely Environmental Management.
The sub-theme of Prof. Sudharto’s task is sustainable development and the environment. The questions prepared by Prof. Sudharto, which became part of the debate, included low carbon development, carbon tax, and the implementation of national strategic projects that have environmental and social implications. Low carbon development is needed to realize net zero emissions by 2060 through efficient and inclusive use of natural resources. However, development practices so far are still oriented towards an extractive economy.
Getting to know him more closely, Prof. Sudharto is the former Rector of Diponegoro University for the 2010-2014 period. He is a Professor of Environmental Management at Diponegoro University. Not long ago, he was also one of 18 figures who received an honorary mark in the form of the Bintang Jasa Pertama by President Joko Widodo.
Bintang Jasa Pertama is an award given by the state to figures who have made extraordinary contributions to society and the country in various fields, including education, science, arts, sports, and others. The award received by Prof. Sudharto Prawoto Hadi, MES, Ph.D., is a form of appreciation for his hard work and dedication to advancing society and the nation.
Prof. Sudharto himself began his higher education at the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIP) Undip. After that, he continued his education at the Faculty of Environmental, York University, Canada, in 1989 and succeeded in obtaining a Master’s degree in Environmental (MES). Not only that, but he continued his studies by taking a doctoral program at the School of Community and Regional Planning, University of British Columbia (UBC), Canada, until he received a doctorate of philosophy or Ph.D.
Currently, Prof. Sudharto is a Professor in the Field of Environmental Management at the Department of Business Administration, FISIP and the Undip’s Environmental Science study program, and serves as Chair of the PROPER Advisory Council of the Ministry of Environment and Forestry.
