The celebration of the 58th Anniversary of the Indonesian Literature Department at the Faculty of Humanities, Diponegoro University, in 2023, was lively and held with the theme “Gema Budaya,” or Cultural Resonance. Both faculty members and students showed great enthusiasm in commemorating this significant milestone. The spirit of celebration was evident as students and faculty adorned themselves in traditional attire from various regions, echoing cultural greetings from across Indonesia.
At the Faculty of Humanities, the festivities marking the 58th anniversary of UNDIP’s Indonesian Literature Department occurred from August 21st to 26th, 2023. The event lineup included a Culture Parade, Literary Festival, Literary Arena, Cultural Attractions, Food Market, Alumni Gathering, Collaborative Theater Performance, the play “Darpo Kayun,” and more, making this anniversary celebration even more lively and unique.
After a considerable hiatus from grand celebrations, this year, they held special significance for the members of the Faculty of Humanities at UNDIP, as the event was open to all faculty and university members, not just those from the Indonesian Literature Department.
The opening ceremony on Monday, August 21st, 2023, at the Crop Circle of the Faculty of Humanities, UNDIP, commenced with a Culture Parade led by Indonesian Literature Department students donning traditional attire, marching from the ICT Building to the Faculty of Humanities. Upon arrival at the Faculty of Humanities, the faculty leadership symbolized the event with the release of two white doves named Sasindo and Sasindi. This symbolic act was part of the Culture Parade festivities. The day’s events were further elevated by a Javanese traditional horse dance, a form of Indonesian cultural preservation that the younger generations must uphold. Moreover, the highlight of the day was the Literary Festival, which distributed free books and featured a flash mob involving all Faculty of Humanities students.
“Wherever we are, we must actively express our culture because it is through culture that we receive messages,” stated Dr. Sukarjo Waluyo, S.S., M. Hum., the head of the Indonesian Literature Department at UNDIP, in his address.
Fully supporting this culturally rich event, Dr. Nurhayati, M.Hum., the Dean of the Faculty of Humanities at UNDIP, encouraged students to boost their literacy spirit, stating, “Reading culture is declining, so it must be balanced with a culture of reading correctly.”
Meanwhile, Prof. Dr. Agus Subagio, S.Si., M.Si., Vice Chairman of Research at UNDIP’s Research and Community Service Institute, expressed LPPM’s full support for the anniversary celebration as a form of community service.
It is hoped that this festivity will inspire the spirits of students and the entire UNDIP community to uphold the archipelago’s cultural heritage, one of which is wearing cultural attributes in daily life. (Titis/Nadella – Public Relations)
