Education and Culture Attaché of the Embassy of Japan in Indonesia, Yuriko Kawakubo, carried out her first visit to Diponegoro University (UNDIP) Semarang on Thursday, March 21, 2024. Upon her arrival, Yuriko Kawakubo was directly welcomed by the Vice Rector for Academic and Student Affairs of Diponegoro University, Prof. Dr. Suharnomo, S.E., M.Si., in the Rector’s Meeting Room, Widya Puraya Building, UNDIP Tembalang. The visit of the Education and Culture Attaché of Japan to UNDIP was conducted in the framework of cooperation with educational institutions, especially in terms of scholarships, which were warmly welcomed by UNDIP and represented by lecturers from various faculties.
Prof. Dr. Suharnomo, S.E., M.Si., as the Vice Rector for Academic and Student Affairs of UNDIP, welcomed the arrival of the Education and Culture Attaché of Japan. “On behalf of the university, I extend a warm welcome to your visit here. Currently, UNDIP has engaged in many collaborations with the government and universities in Japan, such as Kagoshima University and Kanazawa University. We thank the Japanese government for once again providing scholarship opportunities for students,” said Suharnomo.
Yuriko Kawakubo, the Education and Culture Attaché of the Embassy of Japan in Indonesia, responded positively to the hospitality extended by UNDIP. Yuriko stated, “I see enthusiasm from Indonesian students who are pursuing studies in Japan and are interested in Japan. Hopefully, we can carry out many collaborations.”
The Japanese government offers scholarships, including Monbukagakusho (MEXT). MEXT scholarship recipients will receive full coverage of education expenses (from enrollment to graduation), a living allowance (approximately 112-145 thousand yen depending on the program), round-trip airfare from Indonesia to Japan, free visa application fees for studying, and no obligation to serve after graduation.
The available scholarship programs include:
- Specialized Training College (Senshu), which provides specialized skills in specific fields and graduates receive a Senmonshi/Diploma Degree,
- College of Technology (Kosen)for junior high school graduates in Japan who continue their studies and obtain a Jun Gakushi/Associate Degree,
- Undergraduate (Gakubu)for Master’s studies and obtain a Gakushi/Bachelor Degree,
- Research Students (Master’s and Doctoral) for students who wish to pursue Master’s/Doctoral studies,
- Teacher Training(Non-Degree) for active teachers teaching in public or private formal schools,
- Japanese Studies (Non-Degree) is a student exchange program that aims to improve Japanese language skills.
The Monbukagakusho (MEXT) scholarship selection system includes primary screening (document selection, written exams, interviews) and secondary screening, which is MEXT’s final selection process.
Yuriko Kawakubo explained this socialization directly to Japanese Language Undergraduate students at the Faculty of Humanities, Diponegoro University (FIB UNDIP), accompanied by the Dean of the Faculty of Humanities Undip, Prof. Dr. Alamsyah, M.Hum. Later, this information will also be shared with lecturers at the Vocational School of Undip and Japanese Language Applied Undergraduate students at the Vocational School of Undip.
