UNDIP, Semarang – The Library Unit (UPT Perpustakaan) and UNDIP Press at Diponegoro University (UNDIP) continually strive to enhance their services for visitors by introducing new services, which UNDIP Rector Prof. Dr. Suharnomo, S.E., M.Si inaugurated. These new services include Saturday Service Hours, the Kartini Corner, Tuesday English Class, and Artificial Intelligence (AI) Services. The launch took place on Wednesday (August 14, 2024) at the UPT Perpustakaan and UNDIP Press Building, 1st Floor, UNDIP Tembalang Campus.
The launch of these four new services was attended by the Head of the Regional Economic Development Implementation Division at the Representative Office of Bank Indonesia for Central Java Province, Ambawani Restu Widi; Vice Rector for Communication and Business, Prof. Dr. Adian Fatchur Rochim, S.T., M.T.; and the Head of the Business Management, Commercial, and Risk Analysis Agency, Dr. Andriyani, S.E., M.M.
The library is not only a place for self-study, research, discussions, or simply seeking inspiration and relaxation; it also plays a crucial role in supporting Diponegoro University’s ranking, contributing to increased research productivity and quality within the university, and ensuring students graduate on time.
With the extended service hours, visitors to the UPT Library and UNDIP Press can make the most of the facilities, providing excellent service to both the UNDIP academic community and the public with longer operational hours. The extended library hours, particularly for Saturday operations, are from 08:00 to 14:00 WIB. Previously, since May 1, 2024, the library extended its visiting hours from Monday to Friday, from 07:30 to 19:00 WIB. However, the library remains closed on Sundays and public holidays.
In his remarks, Prof. Dr. Suharnomo, S.E., M.Si., expressed his appreciation and support for the innovations developed by the UPT Library and UNDIP Press. He hopes that the libraries in other faculties will also contribute by introducing innovations in their respective libraries.
“Knowledge is precious, and libraries serve as the backbone of its development. Therefore, librarians must continually enhance their knowledge and disseminate it to others, making us part of the process of spreading beneficial knowledge,” said the UNDIP Rector.
Ambawani Restu Widi, Head of the Regional Economic Development Implementation Division at the Representative Office of Bank Indonesia for Central Java Province, explained that the Kartini Corner is part of Bank Indonesia’s commitment to improving literacy, mainly related to the history of Kartini, inspires empowered women in Central Java. The initiative also aims to optimize the Kartini Museum, not only as a museum but also as a new source of economic growth in Rembang.
Furthermore, Suwondo, S.Hum., M.Kom., Head of UPT Library and UNDIP Press, expressed his immense gratitude to Bank Indonesia for their trust in the Kartini Corner. He stated that it is an honor for UPT Library and UNDIP Press to be selected as one of the winners of the Kartini Corner giveaway, along with 20 other participants, by Bank Indonesia for Central Java Province through a rigorous selection process.
“UPT Library and UNDIP Press fully support the Kartini Corner as a means to facilitate women, particularly within the Diponegoro University community, in improving literacy,” said Suwondo.
UPT Library and UNDIP Press also launched the Tuesday English Class service to help the academic community practice their English language skills and the Artificial Intelligence service to enhance the productivity and quality of scientific works being developed by the UNDIP academic community.
“Tuesday English Class is held every Tuesday, and the schedule can be found on the social media platforms of UPT Library and UNDIP Press. As for the AI service, UPT Library and UNDIP Press have subscribed to five applications that the UNDIP academic community can utilize by visiting the UNDIP library, where they can also directly consult with the librarians,” he concluded.
