Kerin, a Graduate of the Faculty of Law UNDIP Excels in Essay Competition

The graduation ceremony is a moment that graduates always remember. This moment was also extraordinary for Kerin Rumondang Maruliana, one of the graduates from the Faculty of Law (FH) at Universitas Diponegoro (UNDIP), who participated in the 176th UNDIP Graduation Ceremony on Wednesday (6/11) at the Muladi Dome Multipurpose Building (GSG) UNDIP, Tembalang Campus, Semarang.

For Kerin, celebrating the completion of her studies in 3 years, 11 months, and 2 days, graduating with honors (Cum Laude) and a GPA of 3.86, was a remarkable achievement.

“The future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams, means that the future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams. This quote from Eleanor Roosevelt has always been a reminder accompanying my academic and organizational journey at the Faculty of Law UNDIP,” said Kerin.

Kerin was admitted to UNDIP through the 2020 SBMPTN pathway, and during her studies, she achieved numerous accomplishments from various essay competitions, including:

  1. 1st Place at the G&R 2024 Essay Competition;
  2. Finalist in the Paper Presentation Competition at The 13th Business Law Competition: Hafni Sjahruddin Trophy 2023;
  3. 3rd Place in Legislative Drafting at IMA-HTN Constitutional Law Fest;
  4. The 2023 G&R Archipelago Award at the G&R 2024 Essay Competition;
  5. 2nd Place at the ILSA Surakarta International Legal Summit 2023;
  6. 1st Place in the National Business Legal Talk Essay Competition 2023; and
  7. 1st Runner-Up in the AILS National Article Writing Competition 2022.

In addition to being a delegate in various competitions she actively participated in, Kerin also served as a coach for UNDIP’s delegation in the Foreign Direct Investment International Arbitration Moot 2023 held at Dr. Ram Manohar Lohiya National Law University, Lucknow, India, leading the UNDIP delegation team to achieve several awards, including:

– Highest-Ranked Team (1st place for combined written and oral pleadings);

– 2nd Ranked Claimant Memorial; 2nd Ranked Respondent Memorial;

– 3rd Place Oral Finals (Top 3 out of 55 teams advanced to Global Rounds).

This competition was the most memorable and valuable experience for Kerin, as the UNDIP delegation became the Highest Ranked Team (world champion) at the Foreign Direct Investment International Arbitration Moot 2023, defeating 55 other teams from around the world. “I am convinced that I would not have experienced such a valuable opportunity if I hadn’t studied at the Faculty of Law UNDIP,” said Kerin.

While studying at the Faculty of Law UNDIP, Kerin had numerous opportunities to engage actively in organizations and competitions. “The Faculty of Law UNDIP has many student activity units (UKM-F) that can accommodate various student interests and talents. Additionally, the strong support from the Faculty of Law UNDIP Dean’s Office and the knowledge imparted by lecturers during lectures greatly motivated me to actively and consistently represent UNDIP in various competitions,” she explained.

During her time as a student living away from home, Kerin met individuals from diverse backgrounds, teaching her to appreciate those differences. “There was a lot of character development I went through, not only to become a good and accomplished student but also to become a humble person capable of self-control and being beneficial to others,” said Kerin.

According to her, education and organizational involvement are essential for improving life quality, character development, and unlocking many opportunities in the future. “So, make the most of the opportunities available to become the best version of ourselves at this moment. Thus, our future selves will thank us for not giving up and continuing to strive,” said Kerin. (DHW)
