Graduating with a cum laude honors and a GPA of 3.79 was a source of pride and personal satisfaction for Devintya Wu Meyli. As one of the top graduates from the Chemical Engineering program at the Faculty of Engineering, Universitas Diponegoro (UNDIP), Meyli completed her undergraduate studies while participating in the IISMA student exchange program at Keio University in Japan for six months during her seventh semester. She was one of the 2023 IISMA awardees under the regular scheme, selected among 838 applicants, with only seven students chosen.
Meyli’s outstanding academic achievements in prestigious international research competitions deserve special recognition. Her recognition includes a Gold Medal at the 2024 World Invention Creativity Olympic (WICO); a Silver Medal at the 2023 Japan Design Idea, and Invention Expo (JDIE); a Silver Medal at the 2023 Thailand Inventors’ Day (TID); and a Silver Medal at the Indonesia Inventors’ Day (IID) 2023. These research competitions brought together numerous inventors and innovators from various countries. Meyli and her team showcased an innovative, eco-friendly biodiesel project during these events.
“When we achieved these accomplishments, we felt immense pride, especially after receiving international recognition for our innovations. These awards have provided significant motivation to continue conducting impactful research, particularly in renewable energy. We believe this achievement is not just a victory for our team but a vital step in showcasing the potential of Indonesian youth on the global innovation stage,” Meyli shared.
Meyli’s valuable experiences during her studies at UNDIP shaped her into a more prepared individual, ready to face future challenges, both in terms of knowledge and interpersonal skills.
“Studying at UNDIP has provided me with invaluable experiences, both academically and personally. The lecturers imparted knowledge and practical insights that equipped me to tackle challenges in the professional world. The academic environment at UNDIP was highly supportive, fostering a positive and collaborative atmosphere that encouraged me to learn, discuss, and grow. All these lessons and experiences are a valuable foundation for my continued growth and contributions in the professional and societal spheres,” said Meyli, who was admitted to UNDIP in 2020 through the national SNBP selection.
Meyli also expressed her gratitude for the support from the faculty and university, especially in non-academic activities such as the IISMA program. “We received more than sufficient guidance, from preparation to program implementation abroad,” she noted.
In addition to her academic achievements, Meyli was actively involved in various organizations. She served as the Vice Head of the Project Initiative Department at TSA UNDIP 2023; Manager of Sponsorship & Fundraising at LPM Kinetika Chemical Engineering UNDIP (2022-2023); Organizing Committee Liaison Officer at the International Leadership Academy (ILA); and a member of the Education and Research Division at HMTK UNDIP (2021).
Furthermore, Meyli participated in personal development training conducted by the Tanoto Foundation, where she received a full TELADAN scholarship. She joined the Leadself program during her second to fourth semesters and the Lead Others program during her fifth to seventh semesters. In her fifth semester, she interned as a Process Engineer at PT Pupuk Sriwidjaja Palembang for one semester. In her eighth semester, she completed a Professional Preparation Program to prepare for her post-graduation career.
For Meyli, education and organizational experiences are the keys to unlocking opportunities for success. “Make the most of your status as a student, not only by focusing on academics but also by participating in various activities such as organizations, competitions, community service, research, and other Kampus Merdeka programs,” she advised during UNDIP’s 176th Graduation Ceremony on Tuesday (November 5, 2024) at the Muladi Dome, UNDIP Multipurpose Building (GSG), Tembalang Campus, Semarang.
Such activities, according to her, help sharpen essential skills like leadership, communication, and time management and expand networks that are valuable in the professional world. “Every experience shapes character, enhances competitiveness, and opens greater opportunities in the future,” she concluded.
