UNDIP Thematic KKN Students Invite Asshodiqiyah Islamic Boarding School Students to Become Health Cadres

SEMARANG – As a demonstration of care for the health of the students at Asshodiqiyah Islamic Boarding School, Thematic Community Service (KKN) students from Universitas Diponegoro (UNDIP) established a Santri Health Cadre through the issuance of the 2024 Decree on the Formation of Santri Health Cadres at Asshodiqiyah Islamic Boarding School, approved by the Chair of the Asshodiqiyah Foundation, Dr. H. M. Shidqon Prabowo, M.H. (Gus Shidqon). The health cadre comprises eight students, including four male and four female santri (Islamic boarding school students).

After the cadres were formed, they underwent training and empowerment during the 2024 Santri Health Cadre Empowerment Socialization held on Sunday, November 3, 2024, at the Asshodiqiyah Santri’s Dormitory Hall. All health cadres attended the activity and were supervised by the boarding school administrators.

“These health cadres are established to improve health conditions at this boarding school through activities such as health counseling and check-ups,” said Masrur, the Head of Asshodiqiyah Islamic Boarding School.

The socialization was conducted by Adzkian Fairushoum Siqhny and Wahyu Danik Hastamy, students from the Faculty of Public Health UNDIP, class of 2021. The session provided the cadres with information on the objectives and benefits of being health cadres, as well as their roles and responsibilities, and included hands-on training.

“Their duties and responsibilities as health cadres include conducting health counseling once a month, health check-ups every four months, mosquito larvae eradication (Pemberantasan Jentik Nyamuk / PJN) every two weeks, and Black Soldier Fly (BSF) maggot cultivation,” explained Adzkian Fairushoum.

The health cadres also participated in direct practice, learning to conduct health checks such as measuring blood pressure, weight, height, abdominal circumference, and upper arm circumference and monitoring and reporting their findings. They were trained in delivering health counseling using posters, inspecting mosquito larvae in the environment, and cultivating BSF maggots to manage organic waste at the boarding school, which could also serve as an additional source of income.

The initiative aims to increase awareness among all students at the boarding school.

The health cadres create a healthier and more prosperous environment at Asshodiqiyah Islamic Boarding School. This effort supports Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 3, which focuses on ensuring healthy lives and promoting well-being for all at all ages.
