Bravo! SUNNECT Innovation Leads UNDIP’s Engineering Students to Win Gold Medal Award at KIDE 2024 Event in Taiwan

December 9, 2024 – “SUNNECT: Smart Water Purification Technology Powered by Solar Panels and Integrated Internet of Things” is an innovative technology developed by students from the Faculty of Engineering at Universitas Diponegoro (UNDIP). This breakthrough earned remarkable achievements on the international stage. The student team, comprising Mutiara Tabitha Kamal (Chemical Engineering), Evan Cahya Putra (Mechanical Engineering), Muhammad Ahsan Fillah Abadi (Electrical Engineering), and Riezky Ramadhan (Electrical Engineering), won the Gold Medal Award and the Macao Special Award at the prestigious Kaohsiung International Invention & Design EXPO (KIDE) 2024.

The event took place at the Kaohsiung Exhibition Center, Taiwan, from December 5–7, 2024, featuring 448 innovations from 32 countries.

The UNDIP team showcased their flagship innovation, titled “SUNNECT: Smart Water Purification Technology Powered by Solar Panels and Integrated Internet of Things.” This technology offers an innovative solution for water purification by utilizing solar energy as its primary power source, combined with Internet of Things (IoT) integration for real-time management and monitoring.

“We are extremely proud to represent Indonesia and Universitas Diponegoro at this international event. SUNNECT was designed to address the need for environmentally friendly, efficient, and technologically advanced water purification solutions,” said Mutiara Tabitha Kamal, the team leader.

“SUNNECT faced tough competition against participants from 31 other countries, presenting 447 outstanding innovations and designs. We competed with representatives from 15 countries, including Thailand, Ukraine, Croatia, Poland, South Korea, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Macao, Saudi Arabia, the Philippines, China, and Vietnam,” Mutiara added.

Dean of the Faculty of Engineering UNDIP, Prof. Dr. Ir. Jamari, S.T., M.T., IPU., expressed his appreciation for this achievement. “This accomplishment demonstrates that UNDIP students can compete globally with relevant and impactful innovations. We hope this project will continue to be developed and bring significant benefits to society,” said Prof. Jamari.

“This international recognition is expected to inspire and motivate other students to innovate and compete, reinforcing UNDIP’s glory. Moreover, this achievement proves that inter-departmental teamwork can be successfully realized with excellent results,” he added.

KIDE 2024, also known as INNOPA.ORG, is one of the most significant innovation and design exhibitions in Asia, providing a platform for showcasing creative ideas from various countries. This achievement further solidifies UNDIP’s position as one of the leading universities producing talented young innovators.

UNDIP remains committed to encouraging students to create sustainable innovations that benefit the global community. (DHW)
