UNDIP Library Comes with Modern Facilities for Gen Z: No More Need to Do Assignments in Cafes!

Semarang (December 11, 2024) – Universitas Diponegoro (UNDIP) proudly inaugurated the modern facility, The Gade Creative Lounge (TGCL), on Wednesday, December 11, 2024. The launch event took place at the Library and UNDIP Press building in Tembalang, attended by the Rector and his team, the Director of Finance & Strategic Planning of PT Pegadaian and his team, Deputy Chair of UNDIP Board of Trustees, Secretary of UNDIP Academic Senate, Head of the Archives and Library Service Office, and other guests.

The Gade Creative Lounge (TGCL) is a collaboration between UNDIP and PT Pegadaian aimed at accelerating the potential of the entire academic community by providing a platform to enhance creativity, productivity, and innovation while exploring the capabilities of the younger generation. TGCL complements the modern facilities of UNDIP Library, catering to the tastes of Generation Z.

TGCL at UNDIP Library serves as a gathering place for students to express their creative ideas. Designed as a mini co-working space, TGCL offers a creative discussion area provided by PT Pegadaian for students. The facility supports academic activities and student creativity development, featuring both leading and supporting facilities. The main facilities include discussion rooms, a library, research facilities, a podcast studio, and a display for MSMEs and UNDIP innovations. Meanwhile, the supporting facilities include computers for general and differently-abled students, a projector and a screen, a rest area, traditional games, a mini golf course, water dispensers, a literacy stage, bookshelves, and an information TV.

Representing Pj. Gubernur Jateng, Defransisco Dasilva Tavares, S.P., M.Si., currently Head of the Provincial Archives and Library Office, expressed appreciation for UNDIP Library’s ongoing efforts to upgrade and improve its facilities for convenience. Library advancements aligned with global trends are a way to preserve intellectual traditions while contributing positively to life. The Central Java Provincial Government would like to thank PT Pegadaian for synergizing with Universitas Diponegoro, which continues to encourage the reading spirit of the younger generation to be creative and innovative in facing the demands of the times.

UNDIP Rector, Prof. Dr. Suharnomo, S.E., M.Si., expressed enthusiasm for the collaboration with PT Pegadaian, adding a modern facility tailored to Gen Z’s preferences in the form of TGCL. “This space is expected to become a hub of activity and collaboration, particularly for students. UNDIP Library strives to provide services that make students feel comfortable and at home,” said the Rector.

Director of Finance and Strategic Planning of PT Pegadaian, Dr. Ferdian Timur Satyagraha, B.Com., M.B.A. said that The Gade Creative Lounge (TGCL) facility is a PT Pegadaian program to support the fourth Sustainable Development Goal (SDGs), namely Quality Education. “PT Pegadaian, as a company engaged in the financial sector, is committed to responding to the development of issues among the younger generation, which is victims of the use of illegal online financial services. In an effort to increase financial literacy for the younger generation, especially students, PT Pegadaian introduces the “Si Gemas” program as part of PT Pegadaian’s commitment to implementing Sustainable Development Goal number 4, namely quality education. The “Si Gemas” (Gade Golden Generation 2024) program is an incubation for students who are interested in investing early on.

The existence of The Gade Creative Lounge (TGCL) is expected to increase students’ enthusiasm for learning and interest in discussion so that they can generate many creative ideas in all fields. The presence of TGCL at the UNDIP Library will increase the appeal and interest of visitors, which will continue to grow. Currently, UNDIP library visitors reach 1,500 to 3,000 per day.

The Gambang Semarang dance also enlivened the launching event of The Gade Creative Lounge. It was combined with the signing of the TGCL inauguration, ribbon cutting, and a tour of The Gade Creative Lounge space. So, when doing assignments, you can go to something other than a cafe!
