Synergy of BKK PII and UNDIP: Downstream Chemical Technology for Food, Energy, and Water Challenges

Semarang, December 18, 2024 – Chairman of BKK PII (Badan Kejuruan Kimia Persatuan Insinyur Indonesia), Dr. Ir. Sripeni Inten Cahyani, accompanied by Prof. Endah from the Institutional Cooperation Division of BKK PII, visited Universitas Diponegoro (UNDIP) to discuss the development of chemical engineering research ready for industrial application.

The discussion aimed to address challenges in food, energy, and water, aligning with the Asta Cita vision of the Merah Putih Cabinet.

The meeting was attended by UNDIP’s Head of Development Planning, Prof. Dr. Ir. Purwanto, an expert in green chemistry and eco-industrial parks, along with several chemical engineering researchers from the Faculty of Engineering UNDIP, including Prof. Dr. Heru Susanto, a membrane and water technology researcher who currently serves as UNDIP’s Vice Rector for Academic and Student Affairs; and Prof. Dr. Hadiyanto, a bioengineering scientist who also serves as Director of Global Partnership and Connectivity Reputation.

Both Prof. Heru and Prof. Hadi are recognized among the Top 2% of scientists worldwide, bringing pride to UNDIP.

Other participants included Prof. Didi Dwi Anggoro, specializing in catalysts and renewable energy; Prof. Dr. Aprilina Purbasari, Head of the Chemical Engineering Undergraduate Program; and Dr. Noer Abror Handayani, Deputy Head of the same program. Both Prof. Aprilina and Dr. Noer are actively engaged in chemical technology research.

During the meeting, the BKK PII Chairman and UNDIP’s chemical engineering researchers explored various technologies ready for downstream implementation, including membrane technology for clean water provision and carbon dioxide separation, catalyst technology for methanol and aromatic compound production, carbon capture using microalgae, and waste-to-energy processing technologies.

Additionally, UNDIP is advancing support systems for green industries and eco-industrial parks as steps toward sustainable, environmentally friendly industries.

This synergy between BKK PII and UNDIP represents a concrete effort to integrate the roles of universities, professional organizations, and industry in addressing real-world societal challenges.

The collaboration underscores UNDIP’s commitment to excellence in academics and innovation through its “Dignified UNDIP” initiative while ensuring tangible contributions to sustainable development in Indonesia through “Beneficial UNDIP.”
