UNDIP Conducts Groundbreaking Ceremony for the Construction of the Tembalang Campus Tower with a Green Campus Concept

UNDIP, Semarang (March 21) – Universitas Diponegoro (UNDIP) officially commenced the construction of the Universitas Diponegoro Tower at Tembalang Campus with a groundbreaking ceremony on Friday, March 21, 2025, at 09:00 AM. This development is part of UNDIP’s ongoing efforts to enhance educational facilities in support of achieving World Class University (WCU) status.

The event was attended by the UNDIP Rector, the Secretary of the Board of Trustees, the Head of Planning and Development, Vice-Rectors, Deans of Faculties/Schools, and other UNDIP officials. Also present were the President Director of PT Wijaya Karya Bangunan Gedung Tbk (WIKA Gedung), the Director of Operations I of WIKA Gedung, the General Manager of PT Wijaya Karya (Persero) Tbk, and the Director of PT Cakra Manggilingan Jaya.

UNDIP Rector, Prof. Dr. Suharnomo, S.E., M.Si., expressed his pride in this project, emphasizing the university’s commitment to providing modern and high-quality infrastructure for its academic community, especially students.

“The building is part of UNDIP’s commitment to providing modern and quality physical facilities. In the future, with these adequate facilities, UNDIP’s academic quality should also continue to increase, especially in achieving the World Class University Ranking in the world’s top 500,” he added.

“Later, all existing facilities will be evenly distributed, which must be the same because we are one as a UNDIP community. We are not a multi-faculty; we are one university. In the future, we will determine which facilities are lacking, and we will accelerate improvements. I also express my gratitude to WIKA Gedung and PT Cakra Manggilingan Jaya. We hope that the construction of this building is on time, appropriately used, and of the right quality,” said Prof. Suharnomo.

In his speech, Hadian Pramudita, President Director of WIKA Gedung, emphasized that the UNDIP Tower in Tembalang will be one of Indonesia’s leading green campus buildings. The tower will incorporate energy-efficient systems and water conservation technologies, contributing to improved air quality and environmental sustainability.

“We hope that this green campus tower will help reduce carbon emissions and promote a healthier, more sustainable environment. On behalf of WIKA Gedung, we ask for your support and prayers as we embark on this journey towards a better future,” said Hadian.

Dr. Ir. Agung Dwiyanto, M.T., the Commitment-Making Officer (PPK) for the UNDIP Tower Construction Project, reiterated that the project aligns with UNDIP’s vision of a green campus. The design adheres to building coefficient regulations while maintaining a significant proportion of green space. The construction is carried out in accordance with applicable laws and has ensured the legality and fulfillment of construction standards.

“We designed it by considering the basic building coefficient and green space, which we maintain as a percentage so that it will become a fairly attractive green campus environment. This tower building will be built with a design and build scheme. With the prayers and support of all parties, it is hoped that this tower can be completed on time, with the right quality, and at the right cost so that it can provide great benefits for the academic community of Universitas Diponegoro,” explained Dr. Agung.

The symbolic pressing of a siren button by the UNDIP Rector, the Secretary of the Board of Trustees, the Head of Planning and Development, the President Director of WIKA Gedung, and the PPK marked the groundbreaking ceremony. Additionally, UNDIP leaders and project stakeholders signed a Commitment Pact on Construction Safety to ensure occupational safety and health during the project’s execution.

The UNDIP Tower at Tembalang Campus will feature:

  1. 21 floors, with a total area of approximately 20,068 m².
  2. A construction period of 630 calendar days (21 months).
  3. Green Building Certification, meeting high environmental standards.
  4. Advanced eco-friendly features, including solar energy utilization, rainwater harvesting systems, and environmentally friendly materials.

In the construction services selection process carried out through the capable partner list route, PT Wijaya Karya Bangunan Gedung Tbk (WIKA Gedung) successfully won the tender as the main contractor. At the same time, PT Cakra Manggilingan Jaya was selected as the management consultant.

The UNDIP tower building on the Tembalang campus will be equipped with various environmentally friendly features such as solar energy, rainwater treatment systems, and environmentally friendly materials. With this development, the UNDIP tower on the Tembalang campus can become a new icon of the campus that is not only modern but also sustainable and provides benefits for the UNDIP academic community and the surrounding community.
