UNDIP Prepares Prospective Graduates with Soft Skills Training

UNDIP, Semarang (May 2, 2025) – In its ongoing efforts to produce globally competitive graduates who embody the COMPLETE attributes (Communicator, Professional, Leader, Entrepreneur, Thinker, Educator), Universitas Diponegoro (UNDIP) continues to provide students with both academic knowledge and personal development opportunities.

Through its Directorate of Student Affairs and Alumni, UNDIP hosted the second phase of its 2025 Soft Skills Training, titled “Winning Job Opportunities: Success Tips for UNDIP 2025 Graduates,” on Friday, May 2, at the Prof. Sudarto, S.H. Building, UNDIP Tembalang Campus.

The training featured two speakers: Dr. Unika Prihatsanti, S.Psi., M.A. (Psychology Lecturer at UNDIP), and Samsu Adi Nugroho (Executive Director of Human Resources and Administration, Indonesia Deposit Insurance Corporation). The session was moderated by drh. Siti Susanti, Ph.D. (Lecturer at the Faculty of Animal and Agricultural Sciences). The event drew over 200 prospective graduates scheduled to participate in UNDIP’s 178th graduation ceremony next week.

UNDIP’s Vice Rector for Academic and Student Affairs, Prof. Dr.rer.nat. Heru Susanto, S.T., M.M., M.T., officially opened the event and congratulated the graduating students on completing their theses and final projects.

“In the workforce, it’s not just about competence—behavior and integrity matter too. This training is essential, as soft skills are critical for career success after graduation. I hope you all take valuable lessons from today,” Prof. Heru said in his remarks.

In her presentation, Dr. Unika Prihatsanti, S.Psi., M.A. delivered a talk titled “Psychological Preparation to Enhance Job Prospects,” emphasizing the importance of starting with small steps. “Big dreams have small beginnings,” she said.

“After graduation, prepare yourselves for job interviews by getting ready both physically and mentally for the working world. Psychological readiness starts with effective daily routines. Know yourself—your strengths and weaknesses—and assess whether they align with the values of the companies you’re applying to. If they don’t, seek out organizations that better match your capabilities and values,” Dr. Unika advised.

The second speaker, Samsu Adi Nugroho, presented “Fighting in the War of Talent Market.” He explained how technological advances have created new types of jobs. He made the labor market increasingly dynamic—especially since 2024, with trade wars, geopolitical shifts, digital disruption, and changes in investment climates.

“We are all facing the challenges of the times: ‘Volatility’—rapid and unpredictable changes; ‘Uncertainty’—a lack of clear information; ‘Complexity’—many interrelated issues; and ‘Ambiguity’—difficulty in identifying the causes of a problem,” he said.

“Still, there are always solutions behind the challenges. With advanced communication tools, Gen Z has greater opportunities to explore and seek new prospects,” Samsu added.

The event concluded with an interactive Q&A session, where participants enthusiastically discussed strategies for entering the workforce. Moving forward, UNDIP’s recurring soft skills training is expected to inspire prospective graduates to strive and compete confidently in the global job market. (Titis – Media Relations)
