Advancing Toward a World-Class University, UNDIP Connects Network with WanWay Tech to Develop Smart Transportation

Shanghai, China (April 30, 2025) – In line with its vision of becoming a World-Class University and enhancing the quality of education, research, and international reputation, Universitas Diponegoro (UNDIP) has reaffirmed its commitment to building global partnerships. From April 28 to 30, 2025, UNDIP conducted a strategic visit to China to expand its collaborative network with universities and technology companies in three major cities: Shanghai, Beijing, and Tianjin.

The UNDIP delegation was led by Rector Prof. Dr. Suharnomo, S.E., M.Si., along with Prof. Mohamad Nasir, Ph.D., Chair of the Board of Trustees. They were accompanied by a task force team consisting of Wijayanto, Ph.D. (Vice-Rector for Research, Innovation, Collaboration and Public Communication), Prof. Ir. Agus Indarjo, M.Phil. (Secretary of the Board of Trustees), Pulung Widhi Hari Hananto, S.H. (Deputy Director of Global Partnerships and Connectivity), and Abdul Rohman, S.Hum. (Manager of Reputation, Partnership, and Global Connectivity).

The visit aimed not only at academic institutions but also at fostering research cooperation with leading technology companies in China. One of the key agenda items took place on April 27 in Shanghai with a visit to WanWay Tech (Shanghai Wanway Digital Technology Co. Ltd.), a company specializing in smart transportation and software development.

The UNDIP delegation was warmly received by Justin Lee, a representative from WanWay Tech, who guided them on a tour of the company’s exhibition center. There, UNDIP was introduced to various technological innovations, including the flagship product E-Bike, a digitally powered electric bicycle developed in collaboration with Wuhan University and Shanghai Jiao Tong University.

During the discussion session, the UNDIP Rector expressed the university’s readiness and enthusiasm for engaging in research collaboration and knowledge transfer with WanWay Tech. One of the proposed initiatives includes developing a smart transportation ecosystem in Indonesia, with the UNDIP campus serving as a pilot project.

“We are very enthusiastic about collaborating with WanWay Tech, particularly in the field of research and knowledge transfer in smart transportation technology. We see great potential in developing a relevant and applicable smart transportation ecosystem in Indonesia. In this regard, the UNDIP campus is ready to serve as a pilot project and living laboratory for these innovations. We believe this partnership will be a strategic step toward driving sustainable digital transformation within both academia and society at large,” he said.

The cooperation will also focus on strengthening human resources through staff exchange and internship programs for UNDIP’s academic community, which will be in line with efforts to develop global talents with superkeeper characteristics.

This visit marks a concrete step by UNDIP in building its international reputation through collaborative research, technological innovation, and the development of top-tier human resources via a global partnership network. (RPGC/Pulung/Ed. Nurul)
