UNDIP Holds 178th Graduation, Rector States: Success Belongs to Those Who Continue to Learn and Work Hard

UNDIP, Semarang (May 6, 2025) – Joyful, emotional, and solemn moments filled the Muladi Dome Multipurpose Building at Universitas Diponegoro as thousands of graduates officially earned their academic degrees during UNDIP’s 178th Graduation Ceremony. The sacred three-day event, held from May 6 to 8, 2025, marked a milestone for 2,852 graduates from various faculties and schools at the university.

UNDIP Rector Prof. Dr. Suharnomo, S.E., M.Si., extended his congratulations and best wishes to graduates across all academic levels, including 47 doctoral, 415 master’s, 37 medical specialist, 37 professional, 2,219 undergraduate, 79 applied bachelor (D4), and 18 diploma graduates. Among them, 298 were recipients of the government-sponsored Bidikmisi scholarship program.

In an inspiring address, Prof. Suharnomo emphasized to the graduates the importance of perseverance, integrity, and faith in achieving success.

Drawing from Chinese philosophical values, he encouraged graduates to reflect on five elements believed to lead to prosperity: Ming (destiny), Yun (luck), Feng Shui (harmony), philanthropy (hard work and integrity), and education.

“When we are on the right path, these five elements come together. Education is the foundation, but without integrity and luck, our achievements may be hindered,” he said.

“Success doesn’t come instantly. We need intensity and resilience. Putting our trust in God, along with our best efforts, is key. May luck always accompany your steps,” the Rector continued, delivering his message with depth and warmth.

Prof. Suharnomo also referenced the new tagline introduced by the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Technology — “Diktisaintek Berdampak” — aligning it with UNDIP’s vision: “UNDIP, Noble and Valuable.”

In closing, the Rector urged graduates to remain humble, persistent, and grateful. “Success belongs to those who keep learning, work hard, and always honor the blessings and prayers of their parents,” he said.

This graduation event was divided into three stages. The first included graduates from the Postgraduate School, Faculty of Law, Faculty of Science and Mathematics, Faculty of Humanities, and Vocational School. The second stage featured graduates from the Faculty of Economics and Business, Faculty of Engineering, Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Sciences, and Faculty of Psychology. The final stage celebrated graduates from the Faculty of Medicine, Faculty of Animal and Agricultural Sciences, Faculty of Social and Political Sciences, and Faculty of Public Health.

Chairman of the Academic Senate, Prof. Ir. Edy Rianto, M.Sc., Ph.D., IPU, called on graduates to become agents of national transformation. “Spread across the archipelago, even to the world. Raise the Diponegoro flag high, and be pioneers of progress and community well-being,” he urged. “Stay grounded — don’t let power, pride, or intelligence make you arrogant,” he added.

Meanwhile, Vice-Rector for Academic and Student Affairs, Prof. Dr.rer.nat. Heru Susanto, S.T., M.M., M.T., expressed pride in the university’s growing alumni. He noted that UNDIP has now produced 278,154 graduates in total. Of the 2,852 graduates this period, 2,087 — or 73.18 percent — earned the distinction of cum laude.

“We are proud of all of you. Uphold the good name of yourselves, your families, and your alma mater. May you find success in your careers, personal lives, and true happiness in this world and the subsequent,” Prof. Heru concluded. (DHW)
