UNDIP Fosters Qur’anic Generation with Character and Achievement Ahead of National MTQM

UNDIP, Semarang (June 26, 2025) – Universitas Diponegoro (UNDIP) reaffirms its commitment to nurturing and developing the potential of its students across all fields, including religious and spiritual development. This action is reflected in the university’s organization of the Musabaqah Tilawatil Qur’an Mahasiswa (MTQM), a university-level Qur’an recitation competition, held on Thursday, June 26, 2025, at the 3rd Floor Auditorium of the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIP), UNDIP Tembalang Campus, Semarang.

The event was attended by the Vice-Rector for Academic and Student Affairs, Deans from various faculties and schools, the Director and Deputy Director of Student and Alumni Affairs, university leadership, competition judges, MTQM coordinators, heads of student government organizations, and participants in the MTQM 2025 competition. UNDIP Rector Prof. Dr. Suharnomo, S.E., M.Si. attended the closing ceremony.

Representing the Rector at the opening ceremony, Vice-Rector for Academic and Student Affairs Dr.rer.nat. Heru Susanto, S.T., M.M., M.T. expressed his full support for the 2025 MTQM. “We fully support this activity—not just MTQM, but all student activities involving delegations and efforts to develop student potential, regardless of their background,” he stated.

“I encourage you all to give your best—do the best you can. What matters most is that you’ve made the effort and maximized your potential. Today, we focus on MTQM, and we pray to Allah that the results this year will surpass those of 2024 and that 2026 and beyond will bring even greater outcomes,” Prof. Heru added.

During the MTQM closing ceremony, UNDIP Rector Prof. Suharnomo explained that UNDIP’s student admissions through the Seleksi Bibit Unggul Berprestasi (SBUB), or Achievement-Based Talent Selection pathway, now spans across multiple faculties. “Alhamdulillah, this year nearly every faculty, including the Faculty of Medicine, accepted two or three students who are Hafidz Al-Qur’an (Qur’an memorizers). We also have students coming through for basketball, karate, and even Bible and scripture memorizers from other faiths, based on established standards,” he explained.

“I deeply appreciate activities that focus on spiritual and religious development. They reflect the importance of religious values in our lives. I feel fortunate to witness such dedicated young talents in the field of religion. I truly admire individuals who are spiritually knowledgeable, intelligent, and uphold good character. I offer my highest respect and admiration to all participants—especially those skilled in Qur’anic recitation, Qur’anic science debates, and similar activities,” he added.

“I hope this activity continues to grow and improve, ultimately contributing positively to society. At the very least, it should benefit you personally, your family, and your community. The more young people like you who are committed to religious values and a balanced life, the greater the positive impact on society. May you become role models for others, proving that success isn’t defined solely by academic performance but also by a healthy balance of spiritual and daily life. I wish you holistic success and a meaningful contribution to the world,” concluded Prof. Suharnomo.

In his report, MTQM 2025 Coordinator Nur Fauzan Ahmad, S.S., M.A., stated that the competition aimed to deepen understanding, appreciation, and practice of the teachings of the Qur’an. Additional goals include enhancing Islamic values and brotherhood on campus, preserving Qur’anic cultural arts, promoting religious moderation in society, and preparing UNDIP’s delegation for the 2025 National MTQM, scheduled for October in Banjarmasin.
