Chat Generative Pre-Trainer Transformer is a search engine like Google with a chat or dialogue. Chat GPT is a means of searching for information and communication tools of the librarian profession and other professions. The importance of GPT chat publications among academic circles include encouraging UPT Library & Undip Press and FKP3 Undip to hold Webinar Series 3 with the theme of “The Implications of GPT and AI Chat for Higher Education and Libraries in the Future” through the Zoom Meeting platform on Wednesday (3/15). A total of 343 participants listened to the presentation from the resource person, Dr. Eng. Ayu Purwarianti, S.T., M.T. as reported by Sri Endah Pertiwi, S. Sos., M.IP., the chairman of the committee at the beginning of the event.
“This GPT feature can be operated on cell phones, laptops or computers. GPT chat is increasingly widespread on social media Twitter and although it is still relatively new because it was launched in November 2022, its users reached 100 million users in early February 2023. This platform is very interesting because it can answer questions in a flexible, creative, and complete manner. This forum can be operated for free and has complete features with 94 languages. This GPT chat is a feature provided by Open AI to help individual activities everyday, for example answering questions from mathematics to social science,” explained Sri Endah Pertiwi.
In the welcoming session as well as the opening represented by Suwondo, S.Hum., M.Kom as the Head of UPT Library & Undip Press and FKP3 Undip, he said that at this time it was increasingly discussed various forms of scientific forums, seminars and webinars about GPT chat and AI. It is inevitable for the library manager at least as a librarian must compete to accept the development and presence of knowledge/application as well as other programs. “The presence of these applications/technology can be used as friends and supporting work that creates comfort in the learning process onwards,” he added.
Suwondo also said, “For Diponegoro University students, we immediately launched the thesis clinic or guidance for the thesis together with the faculty at the end of March. There are 28 librarians who will accompany students, especially for the thesis and final paper assistance. We have prepared the places to share with each other about the thesis. Later the students who are working on the thesis can be accompanied by the librarian to be able to get the latest topics and our hope is that the thesis is quickly completed and the target can be achieved,” he added.
The resource person, Dr. Eng. Ayu Purwarianti, S.T., M.T. mentioned, “We cannot avoid artificial intelligence technology because the development is very fast. What we can do is we use this AI technology to help our work and need to understand a little way of working behind it so that we know the risk of use. We must always adapt to the times so that we are not victims but we can benefit as much as possible.” (Diah/Gabriela – Public Relations)
