UNDIP, Semarang (19/7) – The UNDIP Library and UNDIP Press organized a webinar titled “Writing a Great Paper and Getting It Published” on Thursday, July 16, 2026. The webinar featured Nicholas Pak, Customer Success Team Manager for South and Southeast Asia at Elsevier, as the speaker, with Pradipta Faikar Hakim serving as moderator. The event aimed to equip the UNDIP academic community with strategies to prepare high-quality scientific articles and increase their chances of publication in reputable international journals.
In his presentation, Nicholas Pak explained that the publication process for scientific articles in international journals involves a rigorous peer review mechanism to maintain publication quality. He also shared strategies for preparing manuscripts, ranging from selecting an appropriate journal using the Journal Finder to structuring research systematically and presenting data clearly through effective visualizations.
“Selecting a journal that aligns with the scope of the research and preparing a manuscript supported by strong data are important factors in increasing the chances of publication,” Nicholas said.
Beyond sharing writing tips, Nicholas also highlighted the importance of maintaining ethical standards in academic publishing. He emphasized the rejection of gift authorship, the practice of adding someone’s name to a scientific article without their making a meaningful contribution to the research process. Nicholas stressed that every person listed as an author must take full responsibility for the work’s validity. He also underscored the importance of transparently disclosing conflicts of interest and research funding sources, as well as using generative artificial intelligence (AI) responsibly and in accordance with publishers’ policies. Through this activity, participants gained a better understanding of how to write high-quality scientific articles, uphold ethical standards in academic publishing, and use AI technology appropriately to enhance the quality of reputable scientific publications.
