UNDIP, Semarang (March 14) – The Faculty of Economics and Business at Universitas Diponegoro held a Scientific Oration as part of the 65th Anniversary celebration. The event took place in the 4th-floor hall of the Entrepreneurship Laboratory Building, Faculty of Economics and Business UNDIP, Tembalang. This year’s celebration carried the theme “Strengthening a Noble and Valuable World-Class Faculty Through Synergy and Accelerated Growth,” reflecting the faculty’s commitment to enhancing synergy and accelerating growth toward international standards.
Dr. Warsito Kawedar, S.E., M.Si., Akt., UNDIP’s Vice Rector for Planning, Finance, Assets, Business, and Household Affairs, expressed his appreciation for the scientific oration. In his speech, he highlighted the importance of financial independence, which UNDIP has been implementing. “We have started applying financial independence for the university, in line with the slogan ‘Noble and Valuable UNDIP’ launched by the Rector of UNDIP,” he stated.
As part of this policy, UNDIP has initiated the “Proud of UNDIP Products” program, aiming to commercialize academic products to support the university’s sustainability. “One of the initiatives launched is Voca Water, a product from the Vocational School, developed as a step to reduce dependence on state budgets. Furthermore, this financial independence policy will be expanded across various faculties to ensure sustainable funding and innovation development within UNDIP,” he added.
In his remarks, the Dean of the Faculty of Economics and Business UNDIP emphasized that the theme of the 65th Anniversary of the Faculty of Economics and Business aligns with UNDIP’s new slogan. “This year’s theme aligns with UNDIP’s slogan and reflects the faculty’s commitment to strengthening synergy and accelerating growth in academic quality. It is also in line with the faculty’s achievements, where eight study programs have received international accreditation,” he stated.
The Faculty of Economics and Business remains committed to producing graduates who excel academically, uphold dignity, and contribute to society. “With synergy and accelerated growth in academic quality, character development, and tangible social contributions, it aims to continue encouraging lecturers and staff while producing graduates who are academically excellent, dignified, and beneficial to society. This way, the Faculty of Economics and Business UNDIP can further enhance its reputation both nationally and globally,” he explained.
The Scientific Oration for the anniversary of the Faculty of Economics and Business featured Suryo Utomo, S.E., Ak., S.H., M.B.T., Ph.D., an alumnus currently serving as the Director General of Taxes at Indonesia’s Ministry of Finance. In his speech, he presented a lecture titled “Taxes: Between Necessity and Compliance,” highlighting the importance of tax payments as the backbone of state revenue. “Almost 80% of state revenue comes from taxes, making compliance in tax payment a crucial factor in maintaining economic stability,” he explained. At the end of his speech, Suryo Utomo encouraged attendees to contribute to national development by fulfilling their tax obligations in accordance with existing regulations.
The Scientific Oration is one of a series of Anniversary events that began in early March. The 65th Anniversary of the Faculty of Economics and Business celebration started with a Qur’an Recitation (Khotmil Qur’an), followed by an English Economic Debate Competition, the Scientific Oration, and a Fun Walk.
