SEMARANG – The Doctoral Study Program in Information Systems (DSI) at the Postgraduate School of Diponegoro University (UNDIP) held an International Visiting Lecturer event featuring two speakers from UTHM Malaysia on Friday, June 21, 2024.
The two speakers were lecturers from Universiti Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia (UTHM): Prof. Mustafa bin Mat Deris, Ph.D., and Dr. Yosza bin Dasril, M.Sc., Ph.D., with Dr. Eng. Adi Wibowo, S.Si., M.Kom., serving as the moderator.
The event, themed “Data Science and Its Future,” was held in the Main Meeting Room TTB-A of the UNDIP Postgraduate School and was attended by 100 students from the Master’s and Doctoral Information Systems programs at UNDIP.
The Dean of the UNDIP Postgraduate School, Prof. Ir. Mochammad Agung Wibowo, M.M., M.Sc., Ph.D., opened the International Visiting Lecturer event. He expressed his appreciation for the event, especially for its featured experts in data science from Malaysia.
“Thank you to the speakers for being willing to come to UNDIP to deliver data science material. This is their second visit to UNDIP, and we hope this knowledge-sharing activity will be beneficial,” said Prof. Ir. Mochammad Agung Wibowo.
The Head of the DSI UNDIP program, Prof. Dr. Rahmat Gernowo, M.Si., mentioned that the theme of data science is an exciting and viral topic, with several universities even opening specialized data science programs. Thus, this event will be engaging and add valuable knowledge.
Meanwhile, in his presentation, Prof. Mustafa bin Mat Deris discussed Data Science, including its life cycle, prerequisites, tools, and applications.
Prof. Mustafa further explained that the future of data science would develop in areas such as edge computing, ethics and responsible AI, automated Machine Learning, and explainable AI.
In response to a question from the Head of the DSI UNDIP student association, Bagus Satrio Waluyo Putro, Prof. Mustafa noted that Indonesia has many companies, unlike Malaysia, where there are fewer. Therefore, the opportunities for data analytics and data science in Indonesia are very high.
Dr. Yosza bin Dasril remarked that this method’s optimization is extraordinary and never obsolete, and its feature work is excellent and can be utilized effectively.
He added that mastering data science does not require a comprehensive mastery of all mathematics but rather a sufficient understanding of linear algebra and matrix determinants.
