For the first time since his inauguration as Rector of Universitas Diponegoro (UNDIP) for the 2024–2029 term at the end of April 2024, Prof. Dr. Suharnomo, S.E., M.Si., served as the inspector of the flag-raising ceremony. The ceremony, held in commemoration of National Education Day (Hari Pendidikan Nasional / Hardiknas) with the theme “Move Together, Continue Merdeka Belajar,” took place at the Widya Puraya Field, UNDIP Tembalang Campus, on Thursday (May 2, 2024).
During the event, Prof. Suharnomo delivered the official address of the Minister of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology of the Republic of Indonesia, Nadiem Anwar Makarim, B.A., M.B.A.
In the speech read by Prof. Suharnomo, the Minister reflected:
“Time has brought me to the end of my tenure as Minister of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology. However, this is not the conclusion of the Merdeka Belajar movement. With sincere gratitude, I thank you for the dedication you have shown. With hope, I entrust Merdeka Belajar to all of you, the changemakers who never give up on propelling Indonesia into the future. Happy National Education Day. Let us continue to work together to enliven and carry forward the Merdeka Belajar movement.”
Adding to the Minister’s message, Prof. Suharnomo shared advice inspired by Umar bin Khattab radhiyallahu ‘anhu, stating:
“This is important for me and all of you. First, we must seek guidance from Almighty God, as this position is not an achievement but a mandate. Second, the Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) must continue—those who perform well will be rewarded, while those who underperform will receive guidance. Third, I welcome constructive criticism if my work is unsatisfactory; advise me if it is appropriate.”
Prof. Suharnomo concluded with a motivational note, saying, “May a relaxed demeanor not prevent us from excelling in our work.”
