UNDIP Trains Semarang Junior High School Teachers with ‘IDEAL’ Formula to Shape a Character-Driven Generation

UNDIP, Semarang (July 9, 2025) – The Faculty of Psychology at Universitas Diponegoro (UNDIP) held a special event titled Bakti pada Guru (Tribute to Teachers), with the theme “Transforming ‘IDEAL’ Teacher Character to Defend Indonesia.” The program trained around 110 junior high school teachers from Semarang City to become educators capable of shaping students with strong character.

The event was held Wednesday, July 9, 2025, at the Prof. Drs. Darmanto Jatman Auditorium, Faculty of Psychology, UNDIP Tembalang Campus. It was organized in collaboration with PT Charoen Pokphand Foundation Indonesia (CPI).

Teachers were encouraged to develop into ‘IDEAL’ individuals—Inspirational, Dedicated, Empathetic, Virtuous, and Open-hearted. Initiated by Dr. Hastaning Sakti, M.Kes., Psychologist, the Bakti pada Guru program has been held 36 times, reaching 2,923 teachers across Indonesia, and this year marked its first implementation in Semarang, specifically at Universitas Diponegoro.

Dean of the Faculty of Psychology, Prof. Dian Ratna Sawitri, S.Psi., M.Si., Ph.D., expressed her gratitude for the continuation of this impactful program. “We appreciate PT Charoen Pokphand Indonesia for their ongoing support of UNDIP, especially the Faculty of Psychology, through this meaningful collaboration. This synergy aligns with our Rector’s vision for UNDIP to be a noble and valuable university,” she said.

Secretary General of Charoen Pokphand Foundation Indonesia, Andi Magdalena Siadari, S.H., M.H., shared her hope that the training would support teachers in developing students with strong moral character. “With character-driven teachers, we hope they can raise students who also uphold character,” she stated.

“Character formation begins in the junior high years, which is why we invite teachers to share and engage with trainers during this critical stage of students’ development,” she added.

Since 2017, CPI and UNDIP have partnered to implement Bakti pada Guru, specifically designed for educators. This year, the focus was on junior high school teachers, recognizing this phase as pivotal for shaping student character.

Semarang Mayor Dr. Agustina Wilujeng, S.S., M.M., also expressed appreciation for the role of UNDIP and CPI in advancing character education through training. “This program for strengthening teacher character is essential,” she said.

She reaffirmed the city government’s commitment to improving educational quality, including teacher development as the front line of the classroom. “I hope this initiative continues and reaches more teachers,” she added.

UNDIP Rector Prof. Dr. Suharnomo, S.E., M.Si., closed the series of remarks by emphasizing the teacher’s role as an inspiration to the next generation. “There are moments when something you do becomes a lifelong inspiration to a student. May that inspiration be a blessing to you as teachers,” he said.

Prof. Suharnomo also thanked the Faculty of Psychology and PT Charoen Pokphand Indonesia for organizing the event. “Thank you to everyone who initiated this program. May you continue to be inspired and give your best to your students,” he concluded.

The event was also attended by representatives from CPI’s Jawa Tengah education division, the Jawa Tengah Provincial Livestock and Animal Health Agency, the Semarang City Education Office, the Semarang City Junior High School Division, the Semarang City Education Council, and the Semarang City branch of the Indonesian Teachers Association (PGRI), along with the 110 participating junior high school teachers.

The event included the signing of a cooperation agreement between UNDIP’s Faculty of Psychology and PT Charoen Pokphand Indonesia, signed by the Dean of the Faculty of Psychology and Erick Sucahyo, S.H., Head of Education for CPI’s Jawa Tengah region. The signing was witnessed by the Rector of UNDIP and CPI’s Secretary General.

The Bakti pada Guru program aims to cultivate the spirit of Pancasila, promote child-friendly learning communities, and develop ethics, noble character, and moral values in students. Through the training, teachers are also encouraged to become more expressive, inspirational, open-hearted, and emotionally healthy in order to help students maximize their potential.
