The team led by Dr. Ir. Sri Sumarsih, S.Pt., MP, IPM held a training activity in the livestock sector on Saturday, March 4, 2023. The event was attended by around 120 breeders. The training materials are aspects of livestock health and the manufacture of quality feed.

“Diseases that attack and become epidemic lately are foot and mouth disease (FMD) and Lumpy Skin Disease (LSD), which are caused by viruses,” said drh. Ikania Agusetyaningsih, M.Pt. The veterinarian from Undip also explained the symptoms of the disease, its transmission and its impact on livestock health. Prevention and treatment efforts are also clearly explained. In addition to these two diseases, diseases that commonly affect livestock such as intestinal worms, bloating, diarrhea, Newcastle disease, cholera, botulism to avian influenza are also explained in this training activity. “So, the most important thing is that livestock biosecurity must be implemented in a disciplined manner,” he explained in the discussion with the breeders.

The next training material is making quality feed for livestock, especially cows which are raised by many Sukorejo residents. The material was delivered by Ir. Surono, M.P., a ruminant feed nutritionist. In his explanation, Surono stressed the need to provide quality feed and meet nutritional needs so that livestock can produce optimally. The introduction of various types of feed ingredients including an inventory of the potential of local feed ingredients which have not been used as feed so far, is conveyed clearly so that it can be well understood by the training participants.

After explaining the material, the training participants immediately followed the practice of feed processing and concentrate manufacture. In practical activities, participants were taught to use a chopper grinder machine that had been handed over by the Department of Livestock FPP Undip to Sukorejo Village, witnessed by the Sragen Regent, dr. Kusdinar Untung Yuni Sukowati.

This training activity is a concrete manifestation of the Tri Dharma of Higher Education, namely community service carried out by FPP Undip in a series of accelerating the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
