UNDIP Rector Prof. Suharnomo, Elected as ATPI Chairman, Promotes Academic Collaboration Through Tennis

UNDIP, Semarang (February 8) – Prof. Dr. Suharnomo, S.E., M.Si., Rector of Universitas Diponegoro (UNDIP), has been elected as the Chairman of the Indonesian Professors’ Tennis Association (Asosiasi Tenis Profesor Indonesia / ATPI) for the 2025-2029 period. The inauguration of the ATPI central board took place at a Gala Dinner held at the Gradhika Bhakti Praja Building within the Jawa Tengah Governor’s Office Complex. The event was attended by 96 professors from 36 universities across Indonesia.

The Acting Governor of Jawa Tengah, Komjen Pol (Purn) Drs. Nana Sudjana A.S., M.M., officiated the inauguration and formally opened the Professors’ Tennis Festival. As an appointed advisor to the ATPI central board, Nana Sudjana emphasized the importance of academics in fostering sportsmanship, solidarity, and networking among professors through tennis.

“We hope that tennis will continue to thrive in the future. May the ATPI grow with enthusiasm, sportsmanship, fair play, and above all, contribute to maintaining good health,” he stated.

Meanwhile, the newly elected ATPI Chairman, Prof. Suharnomo, who was entrusted with the position of Executive Board General Chairman in 2024, expressed his commitment to making ATPI a platform not only for advancing tennis among academics but also for strengthening camaraderie and collaboration among professors.

“ATP is a competition for fun. Winning is just a bonus; what truly matters is that ATPI members can collaborate to enhance the quality of education at their respective universities. So, beyond competing in tennis championships, this gathering also fosters networking between higher education institutions,” said Prof. Suharnomo.

In his report, the Rector of Universitas Muhammadiyah Semarang (Unimus), Prof. Dr. Masrukhi, M.Pd., as the host, highlighted that professors from both public and private universities across Indonesia attended the event.

“Professors are intellectuals with many ideas. The goal of ATPI is not just to compete in tennis but also to serve as a forum for professors to exchange thoughts and ideas beneficial to society, whether in education or community empowerment,” he remarked.

The Gala Dinner was also attended by members of the Indonesian House of Representatives Commission IX, Dr. Edy Wuryanto, M.Kep; Regional Secretary of Jawa Tengah Province, Sumarno, S.E., M.M.; Pangdam IV/DIP represented by Kajasdam IV/DIP, Colonel ARM Suharyanto, S.Sos; Kapolda represented by Kasatpamobvit, AKBP Sigit; Head of the Central Java Youth, Sports and Tourism Service, Agung Hariyadi, S.E., M.M.; Chairperson of the Jawa Tengah Provincial Tennis Media Association; and Rectors from various universities across Indonesia.

In addition to the inauguration of the ATPI Executive Board 2025-2029, this event also has a series of events in the form of the inauguration of the ATPI Secretariat and the Professor Tennis Festival, which will take place on February 8-9, 2025. The Professor Tennis Festival will be held on 9 tennis courts at UNDIP, UNIMUS and Tri Lomba Juang. (DHW ed. NH)
