Honoring National Figures, Faculty of Humanities UNDIP Holds Seminar to Nominate National Hero Candidate R.M. Margono Djojohadikoesoemo

UNDIP, Semarang (March 20) – In an effort to honor figures who have contributed significantly to the nation, the Indonesian Cyber Media Association (SMSI) organized a seminar on the nomination of R.M. Margono Djojohadikoesoemo as a National Hero. The event took place on Thursday, March 20, 2025, at the Hall of the Faculty of Humanities, Universitas Diponegoro (UNDIP). The seminar aimed to discuss and evaluate the achievements and contributions of R.M. Margono, who is deemed worthy of receiving the National Hero title.

The seminar featured a range of experts in history, politics, and culture, including academics, historians, and representatives from relevant ministries. R.M. Margono Djojohadikoesoemo, the first President Director of Bank Negara Indonesia (BNI), is being proposed as a National Hero due to his significant role in supporting the nation’s economy and development.

Representing the Rector of UNDIP, Vice Rector IV for Research, Innovation, Cooperation, and Public Communication, Wijayanto, S.IP., M.Si., Ph.D., stated, “The nomination of a National Hero is not merely a form of respect but also part of an effort to strengthen national values and history for future generations. A great nation honors the services of its heroes.” He emphasized that Universitas Diponegoro is committed to supporting the nomination of R.M. Margono Djojohadikoesoemo.

Beyond that, the seminar also served as an educational platform to highlight the importance of recognizing and appreciating the contributions of past leaders who played a significant role in Indonesia’s independence and development.

Representing the Governor of Jawa Tengah, Drs. Imam Maskur, M.Si., Head of Social Affairs Office Jawa Tengah, expressed that R.M. Margono Djojohadikoesoemo is highly deserving of the National Hero title due to his immense contributions to the nation’s development. As the initiator of BNI 46, he later proposed the establishment of a central bank to strengthen the country’s economic sovereignty while serving as Chairman of the Supreme Advisory Council (DPA).

The establishment of Indonesia’s first fully state-owned central bank was crucial in maintaining national monetary and economic stability. This institution later became Bank Negara Indonesia (BNI), with R.M. Margono Djojohadikoesoemo serving as its first President Director.

“By acknowledging the contributions of R.M. Margono Djojohadikoesoemo, who laid the foundation for Indonesia’s national banking system, which is now the backbone of the country’s economy, the Jawa Tengah Provincial Government fully supports his nomination as a National Hero,” said Imam Maskur.

The seminar was initiated by the Indonesian Cyber Media Association (Serikat Media Siber Indonesia / SMSI) and supported by Bank Negara Indonesia (BNI). With the execution of this seminar, the nomination of R.M. Margono Djojohadikoesoemo as a National Hero will become more structured, backed by strong academic and historical foundations.
