Faculty of Psychology UNDIP Held Workshop: “Planning and Managing Research Projects in Career Development Area”

The Faculty of Psychology, Diponegoro University (Undip) together with the Undip Center for Career and Capacity Development Studies (CAREERS) are actively running the Undip program in an effort to become a World Class University, one of which is the Visiting Professor program. In this Visiting Professor program, the Faculty of Psychology Undip held a Scientific Publication Workshop with the theme “Planning and Managing Research Projects in Career Development Area” online via Zoom meeting on Thursday, October 27, 2022 at 13:00-15:00 WIB. There were two speakers who were present as resource persons, namely Prof. Bora Lee, Ph.D from Korea University, South Korea and William Gunawan, S.Psi., M.Min., M.Sc., Ph.D from Krida Wacana Christian University who is also a Postdoctoral Fellow at the Faculty of Psychology Undip.

The Dean of the Faculty of Psychology Undip, Prof. Dian Ratna Sawitri, S.Psi., M.Si., Ph.D officially opened the Workshop. Prof. Dian stated that the material discussed today will be especially useful for students and lecturers who will continue their studies abroad. “Hopefully this forum will add new insights on how to process research and dissertations to be more effective and efficient,” she said.

Prof. Bora Lee, Ph.D delivered material on “Planning and Managing Research Projects in Career Development Area”. In designing research projects, first determine whether the research being conducted is individual research or group research. Then whether there are stakeholders involved in the research, whether they come from funding agencies (public/private) or in collaboration with other institutions or organizations.

Planning and management are also important to consider, including the division of tasks, time, funds, team members, and the energy you have to carry out research to completion. “Know your strengths and knowledge, and it would be better if you take a research topic that has the same emotional attachment or value as ourselves,” said Prof. Bora Lee.

There are two types of risk management, namely problems between members (group research) and allocation of funds (budget shortage or overflow). Therefore, the tasks in the group need to be well organized according to the abilities of its members and adjusted to the existing deadlines. This can be reconsidered after the implementation of the pilot project.

The second resource person, William Gunawan, S.Psi., M.Min., M.Si., Ph.D explained the study on “Perceived Future Employability Scale Development”. According to him, self-perception can bring positivity or negativity to an individual.

Perceived Future Employability or the view of the ability to work in the future affect work plans (career planning), work performance (performance), and job satisfaction (career satisfaction). However, this view is not limited to a certain period of time.

In order to further develop ourselves, William Gunawan, Ph.D said that we can form new connections based on the thesis that we made. Find connections based on the theme of the thesis, and we can find professors who are connected to our thesis. From there we can find information about other universities and also get information on scholarships to continue our studies. (Titis – Public Relations)
