UNDIP Rector Welcomes 16,380 New Students and the Presence of the Governor of Jawa Tengah Enlivens the Atmosphere at the 2025 New Students Orientation

UNDIP, Semarang (August 13, 2025) – Muladi Dome, Universitas Diponegoro’s multipurpose hall at the Tembalang campus, served as the venue for the official welcome of 16,380 new students as members of the UNDIP academic community during the New Student Admission Ceremony (PMB) for the 2025/2026 academic year. The three-day event, held on August 13–15, 2025, marked a historic moment for the ‘Diponegoro Muda’ as they began their academic journey.

The presence of the Jawa Tengah Governor, Komjen Pol (Purn) Drs. Ahmad Luthfi, S.H., S.St.M.K., was especially warmly received by thousands of students. With his engaging style, he directly addressed the ‘Diponegoro Muda’ while delivering an inspiring message, urging the younger generation not only to excel academically but also to become agents of change with integrity, character, and a readiness to face global challenges.

Governor Luthfi welcomed the new students to Semarang. “You are among Indonesia’s best sons and daughters who today arrive in Jawa Tengah as the chosen few from 285 million Indonesians, of which only 6.5% can enter university. UNDIP is expected to produce future leaders who will contribute to the development of Jawa Tengah,” he said.

He also encouraged students to seize the opportunity to study at UNDIP, becoming young people who will drive sustainable progress toward Golden Indonesia 2045. “You are the backbone of the nation and especially of Jawa Tengah. I am proud to meet UNDIP students, who carry the hope for prosperity and well-being in this region,” he added.

Governor Luthfi has been collaborating with UNDIP on various regional development programs. “Through the 88 university rectors in Jawa Tengah, UNDIP plays a role in developing the region, engaging students in the university’s Tri Dharma mission. One example is the SPELING MELESAT program, a mobile specialist doctor service that expands access to healthcare for the people of Jawa Tengah,” he said.

The highlight of the event came with an energetic address from UNDIP Rector Prof. Dr. Suharnomo, S.E., M.Si., who encouraged students to become a “Complete Generation”—intelligent, resilient, creative, caring, and dignified. “You are not the fragile strawberry generation, but the Temcy (re: Tembalang City) generation: smart, tough, open-minded, and guided by values. Honor your parents’ trust, study seriously, graduate on time, and contribute meaningfully to society. This spirit is not about red flags or green flags, but about a commitment to becoming a quality, noble, and valuable generation,” he said.

The ceremony continued with remarks from Academic Senate Chair Prof. Ir. Edy Rianto, M.Sc., Ph.D., IPU, who expressed pride in the new students for joining one of Indonesia’s leading universities. “Welcome to a campus whose graduates secure jobs the fastest in Indonesia. Make the most of your time here to learn, sharpen skills, and achieve excellence. Graduate on time with distinction to bring pride to your alma mater and family,” he said.

In his official report, Vice Rector for Academic and Student Affairs, Prof. Dr.rer.nat. Heru Susanto, S.T., M.M., M.T., detailed the new student numbers: 216 doctoral, 945 master’s, 182 specialist, 223 professional, 12,709 undergraduate, and 2,105 applied bachelor/vocational program students.

The students were admitted through various pathways, including SNBP, SNBT, Vocational Excellence Track, Independent Exam, Achievers Selection, and International Undergraduate Program, as well as dedicated tracks for graduate, professional, specialist, and international students.

“UNDIP is now home to more than 66,000 students, supported by 1,900 lecturers and 2,037 staff. We hope all new students will use orientation to familiarize themselves with learning systems, organizations, and campus life in a positive way. Make the best of this opportunity to build a bright future,” he said.

Following the admission ceremony, orientation activities will continue with Campus Life Introduction (PKKMB) on August 19, 2025; Character Education (Pendikar) on August 20–22, 2025; and Diponegoro Muda Orientation (ODM) on August 23, 2025.

Over three days, PMB UNDIP was not only a moment to welcome new students but also a reaffirmation of the university’s commitment to producing graduates who are noble, valuable, and globally competitive.

“UNDIP Bermartabat… UNDIP Bermanfaat… UNDIP Jaya… UNDIP Juara!” echoed throughout Muladi Dome, marking the first step of ‘Diponegoro Muda’ 2025 toward a future of achievements and meaningful contributions to the nation. (Public Communication/ UNDIP/ DHW; ed. Nurul Hasfi)
