Diponegoro University (Undip) students have again made brilliant achievements. The Antawirya Hexa Undip team won 3rd place in the Urban Concept Internal Combustion Engine category and 3rd place in the Prototype Electrical Vehicle category at the 2023 Shell Eco-Marathon Asia Pacific & Middle East competition. Last week, it was held at the Pertamina Mandalika International Circuit, Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara (July 4-9, 2023).
This achievement was achieved with the two prototypes, Gentayu and Rondhan. Gentayu car won 3rd place in the Urban Concept Internal Combustion Engine category with 286 Km/L. Then proceed to the 2023 Asia Pacific & Middle East region Driver World Championship qualification on Monday (10/07) afternoon. Meanwhile, the Rondhan car won 3rd place in the Prototype Electrical Vehicle category with 650 Km/kWh.
Gentayu is an energy-efficient gasoline-powered car that uses a modified engine with a capacity of 125 cc and can drive up to 75 km/hour. Meanwhile, Rondhan is an electric car that uses the BLDC Motor system and weighs 25 kg. These two prototypes have previously won many awards, including 4th place in the Urban Internal Combustion Engine category in the Asia Region at the 2022 Shell Eco-Marathon.
Dean of the Faculty of Engineering Undip Prof. Ir. Mochamad Agung Wibowo, M.M., M.Sc., Ph.D. claimed to be proud of the achievements the Antawirya Hexa Undip Team had obtained. This achievement is the result of the hard work of the entire team over the past few years. “Alhamdulillah, this year we managed to get 2 (two) medals. This proves that the success of younger students is a gift from long-term training and hard work,” said Prof. Agung.
The Antawirya Hexa Undip team is one of the teams that has continuous activities, so it requires real continuous improvement and continues to be carried out. “We have been working for a long time, more or less ten years. Alhamdulillah, the lecturers have high passion, the students are also diligent, and the regeneration within the team is also ongoing. So from year to year, our performance is getting better. The achievement is also by the Vision of the Faculty of Engineering Undip, which is to become a Research-Based Faculty of Excellence at the International Level in 2024,” he added.
“There needs to be a continuous improvement because it will always improve any existing research. In addition, the Undip Antawirya Hexa Team’s activities are very positive because the research results are directly implemented in the field,” he said.
Furthermore, Prof. Agung invites all students to continue participating in competitions because it will hone their instincts and souls to compete with others. “This competition is good because it will give them the instinct or soul to compete because after they graduate, they also have to compete with other people,” he said.
“We also thank all parties, including the University, who continue to give attention, both in the form of funding, facilities, and also access to alumni, and this is one of the extraordinary synergies. In the future, we will advise students to pass on this experience and enthusiasm to their younger classmates so they can later pass the baton on to the next generation,” said Prof. Agung.
The Antawirya Hexa Undip Team is a team from Diponegoro University Semarang engaged in energy-efficient cars. The Antawirya team was formed in 2013 by the Diponegoro University Engineering Student Association Workshop Division. It is planned that after participating in the 2023 Shell Eco-Marathon Asia Pacific & Middle East competition, the Antawirya Hexa Undip Team will take part in the 2023 Energy-Saving Car Contest, which will be held by the National Achievement Center (Puspresnas) Kemendikbudristek on October 11-18, 2023.
