“Gema Budaya,” The Excitement of the 59th Anniversary of Indonesian Literature Study Program UNDIP

In celebration of the 59th Anniversary of the Indonesian Literature Study Program at the Faculty of Humanities, Diponegoro University, an event titled “Gema Budaya” was held again at the Crop Circle of the Faculty of Humanities, UNDIP on August 23, 2024. The enthusiasm of the Indonesian Literature students and faculty for this event was reflected in the batik attire worn by all participants.

The “Gema Budaya” celebration began with a cultural parade. The parade started from the Art Center, circled Dr. Antonius Suroyo Street, and then proceeded to the Faculty of Humanities. All Indonesian Literature students, including the new class of 2024, attended the parade. Upon arrival at the Faculty of Humanities UNDIP, the event was officially opened by the Dean of the Faculty of Humanities UNDIP and followed by the cutting of the tumpeng (a traditional celebratory dish).

In his speech, the Dean of the Faculty of Humanities UNDIP, Prof. Dr. Alamsyah, S.S., M.Hum., congratulated the Indonesian Literature Program on its 59th anniversary. “Indonesian Literature is the oldest program in the Faculty of Humanities UNDIP. Therefore, there is a Javanese philosophy that says, ‘Ing Ngarso Sung Tulodo, Ing Madya Mangun Karso, Tut Wuri Handayani,’ which means Indonesian Literature will prioritize educating and guiding students so that you succeed today in your development at the Faculty of Humanities UNDIP and succeed in the future when you graduate and work,” said Prof. Alamsyah.

The Dean of the Faculty of Humanities UNDIP also explained the faculty’s commitment to remain a Faculty of Culture. “The Faculty of Humanities will always support any artistic activities as part of culture and other cultural practices,” he added.

Meanwhile, the Head of the Indonesian Literature Study Program, Dr. Sukarjo Waluyo, S.S., M.Hum., expressed his joy about the 59th Anniversary of the Indonesian Literature Study Program. He is confident that the Indonesian Literature Study Program will continue to advance, with many lecturers dedicated to the progress of Indonesian Literature.

“Indonesian Literature is closely related to art and culture. What we are doing today shows that we are all concerned with this. Therefore, we, together with other members of the Faculty of Humanities, will continue to bring issues of art, literature, and culture to the forefront,” he said.

“Gema Budaya” was also enlivened by a kuda lumping performance by Sanggar Turonggo Tunggak Semi from Jurang Belimbing, Tembalang, and a Dolalak Sekar Putri performance from Purworejo. Additionally, the highlight of the event was the Grebeg Sastra, where participants competed to grab books arranged to resemble a gunungan (a traditional conical structure).

This event is one of the efforts by the Indonesian Literature Study Program to preserve cultural heritage, especially the arts. “Gema Budaya” is expected to motivate students and the entire Diponegoro University community to continue to appreciate and preserve the culture of the archipelago.
