Akashi College Japan Students Visit UNDIP Vocational School Teaching Factory (TeFa)

In line with its vision to become a World Class University and enhance global competitiveness, Universitas Diponegoro (UNDIP) welcomed two students from The National Institute of Technology, Akashi College (NITAC), Japan, from April 29 to May 6, 2024. This activity is part of a fully-funded program by UNDIP, where the students participate in academic activities at the Vocational School.

The collaboration between UNDIP and NITAC has lasted for over a decade, with various activities carried out, including lecturer mobility, staff visits, and student exchange programs. This harmonious partnership has been successful in organizing fully-funded programs from both institutions, such as Delegation Visits, International Conferences, and the Summer School Programme.

The two students from Akashi College are Ms. Thanyathon Termsriwaranon and Ms. Yui Kirino from the Department of Mechanical and Electronic System Engineering. During their time at the Vocational School, they joined faculty and students in the Industrial Chemical Engineering Technology (Teknologi Rekayasa Kimia Industri / TRKI) program. They actively participated in academic activities, including lectures and laboratory work, with guidance from faculty members in areas such as Mass Transfer, Biotechnology Laboratory, Separation Mass & Heat Transfer, and Process Control Engineering Laboratory. In order to support knowledge transfer and international exposure, the students were also accompanied by Student Buddies: Adinda, Callysta, Adhilla, and Akbar.

“UNDIP’s Vocational School is always ready to welcome international guests, whether they are faculty, staff, or students. Our collaboration with Akashi College has been ongoing ever since the establishment of the Vocational School. During our first anniversary, we successfully invited a lecturer from Akashi College to be a keynote speaker for an international conference we organized. Even Professor Hideaki Kasai, the Rector of Akashi College at that time, participated actively in our activities, including the Summer School Program in Bangka Belitung. One of our faculty members, Anggun Puspitarini Siswanto, S.T., Ph.D., is a Visiting Associate Professor at Akashi College, with a commitment to teach and mentor students in Japan periodically under a fully-funded scheme from Akashi College,” said Prof. Dr. Ir. Budiyono, M.Si., Dean of the Vocational School at UNDIP.

During their stay at the Vocational School, Ms. Thanyathon and Ms. Yui also had the opportunity to visit the newly inaugurated Teaching Factory (TeFa). Various modern tools typical of applied laboratories caught their attention, especially the Industrial Process Control Centre. This laboratory was of particular interest to them as it aligns with their academic background. They learned how some equipment works, including temperature control, level control, and process dynamics. Their positive impressions were evident, with broad smiles as they shared: “It’s so great to have this opportunity. We will promote the Vocational School of UNDIP to our friends back home. Also, we would like to consider taking a Master’s Degree at this University.”
