Brief History

The Faculty of Literature and Culture of Diponegoro University was established on September 1, 1965, beginning with the formation of a committee based on UNDIP Rector Decree No. 626/1965. The basis for the establishment of this faculty was the rich history, culture, and literature in Central Java, so it was considered important to develop these fields. At first, only the Department of Indonesiology was opened with the aim of producing scholars who were able to research and promote Indonesian culture to the international world. As things progressed, the Anglo Saxon Department was added in 1967, and the major selection policy was updated in 1970. The Department of History was opened up to baccalaureate level, while the doctoral level began in 1973. The faculty graduated its first two scholars from the Departments of Indonesiology and Anglo Saxon in 1974.
