UNDIP Joins National Coordination Meeting on Public Relations and Protocol: Advancing Professional Public Communication

UNDIP, Jakarta (June 25, 2025) – Universitas Diponegoro (UNDIP) participated in the National Coordination Meeting on Public Relations and Protocol organized by the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Technology (Kemdiktisaintek). Representing UNDIP was the Directorate of Media Network, Community, and Public Communication along with the Administration and Protocol Team. The three-day event, held from Wednesday to Friday, June 25–27, 2025, took place at Graha Diktisaintek, Building D, 2nd Floor, Jalan Jenderal Sudirman, Senayan, Jakarta.

The event was officially opened by Minister of Higher Education, Science, and Technology, Prof. Brian Yuliarto, accompanied by Deputy Minister Prof. Stella Christie, A.B., Ph.D. It brought together public relations and protocol representatives from 76 state universities, 49 polytechnics, and 17 higher education service institutions (LLDikti) from across Indonesia.

In his remarks, Prof. Brian emphasized several key points regarding the strategic role of public relations and protocol. “Public relations is not just about press releases and documentation. It is the architect of narrative, and therefore, plays a critical role in the success of university programs. The effectiveness of your institution’s programs largely depends on the ability to formulate the right narrative,” he said.

“As institutions of intellectuals, campuses generate ideas, research, and innovation. Your role is to bridge the gap between complex academic thought and the public’s expectation for tangible impact,” Prof. Brian added.

Prof. Brian also urged public relations professionals to leverage data and digital technologies to enhance their work. In today’s data-driven digital era, their role is increasingly strategic. Data is no longer just numbers; it is the raw material for crafting relevant, factual, and meaningful messages. Furthermore, public relations must expand their communication networks—with the media, communities, and alumni—to build a collective narrative about the impact of science and technology under the “Diktisaintek Berdampak” campaign.

UNDIP has demonstrated a strong commitment to supporting ministerial programs. The use of the “Diktisaintek Berdampak” logo aligns with UNDIP Rector Prof. Dr. Suharnomo, S.E., M.Si.’s tagline: Noble and Valuable UNDIP. The Rector consistently emphasizes the importance of ensuring that UNDIP’s academic research and innovation yield tangible benefits for society. This tagline is now being realized through various partnerships with industries, city and district governments across Jawa Tengah, and cooperation with the Provincial Government of Jawa Tengah.

UNDIP’s Vice Rector IV, Wijayanto, S.IP., M.Si., Ph.D., has consistently emphasized that public communication is a vital component of university governance. “For UNDIP, public communication is not a supporting function—it is embedded within the responsibilities of my division: Research, Innovation, Cooperation, and Public Communication. This action reflects our serious commitment to building credible and professional public communication to support the university’s vision,” he asserted.

This year’s coordination meeting marked a significant shift by combining public relations and protocol functions into a single national forum for the first time—aiming to strengthen synergies between these two strategic pillars.

Representing UNDIP were Dr. Nurul Hasfi, MA, Director of Media Network, Community, and Public Communication, and Anggi Andyaningsih, S.Hum., UNDIP’s Manager of Administration and Protocol. Dr. Nurul stated that UNDIP’s participation in the event reflects its commitment to building a professional and credible public communication system. Anggi added that the forum was beneficial for skill enhancement, sharing solutions to on-the-ground challenges, and broadening professional networks. “This forum enriched us with valuable insights, best practices, and opportunities for collaboration to strengthen inter-agency synergy,” she said.

The event featured several key sessions, including a communications strategy session by the Presidential Communication Office (PCO), a protocol workshop led by the Presidential Palace Protocol Team, and a press release writing workshop conducted by the Dr. Sutomo Press Institute. One standout session from The Conversation Indonesia encouraged public relations officers to popularize science and bring it closer to public understanding.

On the second day, participants received a briefing on the “Diktisaintek Berdampak” campaign and logo usage, followed by discussions on public service policy, media relations, interagency synergy, and an introduction to the 2025 Diktisaintek Public Relations and Protocol Awards.
