Faculty of Animal and Agricultural Sciences

History

In 1962 the Minister of Higher Education and Science Prof. Dr. Ir. Thojib Hadiwidjaja suggested to the Rector of Universitas Diponegoro Mr. Soedarto to establish the Faculty of Animal Husbandry. This notion emerged from the realization that Central Java Province has a big livestock potential that must be developed.

This suggestion was responded by Mr. Soedarto as the Rector of Universitas Diponegoro who then approached various parties. After some time, the Preparatory Committee for the Establishment of the Faculty of Animal Husbandry, Universitas Diponegoro was formed with the Decree of the Minister of Higher Education and Science Number 37 of 1963.

Thanks to the seriousness of the Committee and the support of various government and private institutions, with the Decree of the Minister of Higher Education and Science Number 75/1964 dated July 17, 1964, the Faculty of Animal Husbandry of Universitas Diponegoro was established on September 1, 1964.

in 1968 the Faculty of Animal Husbandry of Universitas Diponegoro was developed by opening the Department of Fisheries based on the Decree of the Rector of the Universitas Diponegoro Number 44/1968 dated October 8, 1968. Thus, the Faculty of Animal Husbandry of Universitas Diponegoro had two departments, namely the Department of Animal Husbandry and the Department of Fisheries. Since August 17, 1974, the name of the Faculty of Animal Husbandry, Universitas Diponegoro was officially changed to the Faculty of Animal Husbandry and Fisheries with three Departments (each managing one undergraduate study program), namely: (1) Department of Animal Nutrition and Feed, (2) Department of Livestock Production, and (3) Department of Fisheries (Decree of the Minister of Education and Culture of the Republic of Indonesia Number 0551/0/1983 dated December 8, 1983).

Then starting in 1994 with the establishment of the Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Sciences, the Faculty of Animal Husbandry only has two departments, namely: (1) Department of Animal Nutrition and Feed and (2) Department of Livestock Production.

In 2009 onwards, the Faculty of Animal Husbandry opened a new study programs, namely the Bachelor program in Animal Science, as a consequence of the Decree of the Director General of Higher Education Number 163/DIKTI/Kep/2007 dated November 29, 2007 which required four previous Bachelor programs (Bachelor program in Animal Nutrition and Feed, Bachelor program in Livestock Production, Bachelor program in Livestock Socio-Economic and Bachelor program in Animal Products Technology) in the Faculty of Animal Husbandry to be merged into one study program, namely Bachelor program in Animal Science.

The merger of four Bachelor programs into one Bachelor program in Animal Science had caused inefficiency in human resources, especially lecturers. To improve the faculty efficiency, the development of a non-animal husbandry study program at the Faculty of Animal Husbandry was carried out with the consequence of changing the name of the faculty. The change in the name of the Faculty of Animal Husbandry into the Faculty of Animal and Agricultural Sciences has been approved by the University Senate through the Decree of the Rector of Universitas Diponegoro Number 724/SK/UN7/2011 dated December 8, 2011.

Furthermore, the Decree of the Rector of Universitas Diponegoro Number 312/SK/UN7/2012 dated May 30, 2012 stipulates the merger of the Department of Livestock Production and the Department of Animal Nutrition and Feed to become the Department of Animal Science, and the establishment of the Department of Agriculture at the Faculty of Animal and Agricultural Sciences, Universitas Diponegoro.
