UNDIP Conducted Assistance in Guava Crystals Grafting and Counseling on OPT Control at Sumber Rahardjo Farmer Group, Wates, Ngaliyan

The community service team from Agroecotechnology, Faculty of Animal and Agricultural Sciences (FPP), Diponegoro University (Undip), provided direct assistance to the Sumber Raharjo Farmer Group in Wates Village, Ngaliyan District, on Thursday, May 26, 2022 to coincide with the national holiday of the Ascension of Jesus Christ.

The event was attended by the Head of Village, FPP Undip Agroecotechnology Service Team, and Agricultural Extension Officers. Almost all of the participants seemed very enthusiastic about getting knowledge about crystal guava fruit grafting. Even though it looks very basic, Ir. Karno, M.Appl.Sc, Ph.D. directly practiced the steps in front of the audiences so that the basic knowledge can actually be absorbed and can be easily practiced by the participants.

In addition to providing hands-on practice, the community service team also provided a grafting tool in the form of a small knife which they hoped could continue to be used. We hope that this provision can continue to be practiced, said the lecturer who is also the Head of the Agroecotechnology Study Program.

The next session was counseling on the control of Plant Pest Organisms (OPT). A’isyah Surya Bintang, S.P., M.Sc. shared an overview of the importance of maintaining plants while protecting the environment and health of the harvested fruit, especially crystal guava and longan. In this case, this young lecturer at FPP UNDIP gave a yellow trap which he meant so that farmers began to recognize and continue to monitor their land in a more focused manner because they knew for sure the number of pests or natural enemies in the land. “Yellow trap is a cheap and simple tool for preparation for pest control. I’m sure you can apply it independently,” he said while closing the event.
