Undip and DJPPR Ministry of Finance of the Republic of Indonesia Held SDGs Talks Goes to Semarang: Financing the SDGs’ Decade of Actions

Diponegoro University SDGs Center (Undip), in collaboration with the DJPPR Ministry of Finance of the Republic of Indonesia, held SDGs Talks Goes to Semarang with the theme “Financing the SDGs’ Decade of Actions” on Thursday, June 15, 2023, at 09:00 WIB in the Engineering Hall, floor 5th Dean Building, Faculty of Engineering, Undip. This event aims to increase public awareness about the importance and progress of financing Indonesia’s SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals) during the Decade of Action.

One of the government’s programs to achieve the SDGs target is by issuing SDG Bond, Government Securities (SUN), a specific fund for activities supporting SDG achievement. According to the SDG Bond Allocation and Impact Report, projects implemented with SDG Bond funding include SDG 3: Good health and well-being, SDG 4: Quality education, and SDG 9: Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure.

On his occasion, Deni Ridwan, Director of Government Securities, DJPRR, Ministry of Finance of the Republic of Indonesia, stated that the pandemic had caused the target to achieve the SDGs to be off-track, especially in the health sector. “Indonesia has the tools and resources to achieve the SDGs through the State Budget and public sector funds. Hopefully, all of our visions are in tune for Indonesia toward sustainable development,” he said.

Nila Murti, ASSIST JP National Project Manager-UNDP Indonesia, explained that inclusive development involves all parties according to the four pillars of SDGs, namely the pillars of social, economic, environmental, and law & governance development.

Dean of the Faculty of Engineering Undip, Prof. Ir. M. Agung Wibowo, M.M. M.Sc., Ph.D. emphasized that we must be aware of fast-changing phenomena. “Following one of the obligations of the Tri Dharma of Higher Education, namely education and teaching, subjects with SDGs themes are taught to students,” said Prof. Agung.

In the presentation session, the first material was delivered by Prof. Dr.-Ing. Wiwandari Handayani, S.T., M.T., MPS, the Coordinator for Partnership and Institutional Strengthening of the Undip SDGs Center. Themed Towards 2030: The Urgency to Act for Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), she stated that SDGs are a global and comprehensive commitment for all countries. “The triple bottom line of sustainable development is economic growth, social inclusion, and environmental protection that involves humans (people), nature (planet), and profits (profit/benefit) towards sustainability,” she explained.

The second speaker, Dr. Sanjoyo, M.Ec S.T., M.T., MPS, as Manager of the Social Development Pillar, SDGs National Secretariat of the Ministry of PPN/BAPPENAS, discussed the SDGs Financing Strategy in Indonesia. According to him, innovative funding is a follow-up to strengthening the SDGs in achieving the Sustainable Indonesia agenda in 2030. “Integration of financing initiatives needs to be implemented, for example, with the SDGs Financing Hub,” said Dr. Sanjoyo.

The event continued with a talk show entitled Building and Sustaining Partnership for SDGs. Sub-coordinator of Rainfed Rice Extensification and Dry Land/Functional PMHP Young Expert, Putu Surya Dhana; Coordinator for the Implementation of Vocational Training, Directorate General of Vocational Training and Productivity of the Ministry of Manpower, Gilang Amaldi, B.Eng, M.M.; City Initiative Program Manager for Climate Change (IKUPI), Mega Anggraeni; and the Dean of the Faculty of Engineering Undip, Prof. Ir. M. Agung Wibowo, M.M. M.Sc., Ph.D. became the guest speakers in this talk show.

The discussions included developments in achieving SDGs in various sectors, strategies for achieving SDGs with financing, supplying nutritious food resources as an initial form of preventing stunting from before birth, handling food crises, and creating superior human resources towards a better Indonesia.
