Rector of Universitas Diponegoro (UNDIP) Prof. Dr. Suharnomo, S.E., M.Si., officially inaugurated 10 new university officials and administered the oath of office to 316 newly appointed civil servants during a ceremony held Wednesday (June 18, 2025) at 9 a.m. at the Prof. Sudarto Building, UNDIP Tembalang Campus.
The event, attended by the Chair of the Academic Senate, Vice-Rectors, Deans, university officials, and guests, was based on Rector’s Decrees No. 16/UN7.A/KP/VI/2025 to 19/UN7.A/KP/VI/2025 concerning the appointment and dismissal of Vice-Deans, Department Heads, and Study Program Coordinators. It was also based on the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Technology Decrees No. 24/UN7.A/KP/V/2025 to 341/UN7.A/KP/V/2025 regarding the appointment of civil servants.
The oath of office was administered by the Rector and accompanied by religious leaders according to each official’s faith. The ceremony also included the signing of the official oath statement and an integrity pact, witnessed by Prof. Ir. Edy Rianto, M.Sc., Ph.D., IPU, and Prof. Ir. Mochamad Arief Budihardjo, S.T., M.Eng.Sc, Env.Eng, Ph.D., IPM., ASEAN Eng.
In his address, UNDIP Rector, Prof. Suharnomo, stressed the importance of improving human resource quality and fostering international collaboration. He shared insights from recent visits to leading universities in China and Taiwan. “I saw how open they are to academic and industrial collaboration. This is a golden opportunity for us to build global partnerships and expand further study access, especially for lecturers who have not yet completed their doctoral degrees,” he said.
The Rector urged the academic community to think boldly and break conventional limits. “Open your minds and use the intelligence God has given you to make greater contributions to the nation and society. Whether you think big or small, the effort is the same—but big thinking yields bigger results,” he emphasized.
He also highlighted the need for educators to serve not just administratively but as role models and sources of inspiration for students—demonstrating excellence, integrity, and dedication to the public. “If you can be the best, then be the best. If you’ve committed to becoming a lecturer, then strive to be an accomplished and inspiring one,” he stated.
The Rector reminded the audience that higher education institutions must provide the greatest possible benefit to society. A university should not remain silent when the community is struggling so he encouraged lecturers to broaden their networks beyond the campus and to seek mentoring relationships that challenge and inspire professional growth. Young lecturers must seek out inspiring figures to be discussion partners and mentors but still challenge themselves to do bigger and better things.
In closing, Prof. Suharnomo congratulated all newly appointed officials and civil servants. “You are the future of UNDIP. The quality of this university depends on the real contributions you make,” he concluded.
