UNDIP and PT Jasa Raharja Central Java Organized Traffic Safety Technical Guidance for Students

Diponegoro University, in collaboration with PT Jasa Raharja Central Java Main Branch, held an activity, “Traffic Safety Technical Guidance for Diponegoro University Students 2023,” to increase awareness of driving on the road. This activity was held on Monday and Tuesday, June 26-27, 2023, at 07:30 WIB in Prof. Soedarto, S.H. Building, Undip Tembalang. Participants of this Technical Guidance activity were student representatives from all faculties and Student Activity Unit (UKM) in Undip.

In his remarks, the Head of the PT Jasa Raharja Central Java Main Branch, Sigit Harismun, S.E., explained that Jasa Raharja (JR) is an SOE (BUMN) whose job is to collect traffic problems and provide education so that accidents do not occur. “Today, we will explain to students the importance of traffic norms. Hopefully, it can increase traffic safety awareness and obey traffic signs and markings,” said Sigit Harismun.

The event was opened by the Undip Vice Rector for Academic and Student Affairs, who was represented by the Deputy Director for Student and Alumni Affairs, Dr. Nuswantoro Dwiwarno, S.H., M.H. “Thank you, Jasa Raharja, for implementing this activity. Hopefully, students understand the material presented so that they can minimize student accidents on the streets inside and outside the campus. This is our shared moral responsibility, so we facilitate change,” said Nuswantoro.

On the first day, Monday, June 26, 2023, before the presentation of the material began, the participants were directed to take the pre-test and fill out a questionnaire. The material presented on the 1st day of Technical Guidance was “All About JR” with Central Java SOM, “Warm-Up Practices, Demonstrations, and Safety Riding Practices,” briefings on “Roads, Signs, and Markings,” and “Traffic Hazard Potential from Front and Back” by the PKTJ team.

On the second day, Tuesday, June 27, 2023, some of the material presented to students by the PKTJ team was “Safe Vehicle Distance – Failure to Keep Your Distance, Overtaking – Failure to Overtake, Turning – Careless Turning, Blind Spot,” “Traffic Norms and Ethics,” “Building the Saferi Eduka Movement”, “Developing a Movement Development Program.” A discussion session and a post-test were held at the end of the session.

This Technical Guidance can provide an overview to students regarding driving guidelines properly and correctly and prioritizing safety. In supporting the improvement of traffic safety, Undip is now implementing mandatory regulations for all Undip students, education staff, lecturers, and extended families who drive motorized vehicles to always wear helmets in the Undip area and on the roads.
